Product Information

The S65 engine features hydraulic tensioners which are ideal for high RPM engine operation. Compared to mechanical tensioners, hydraulic-style tensioners typically offer a longer service life with much better performance during high RPM operating and quick RPM changes. This is ideal for the S65 engine.

This kit includes an INA pulley that replaces the tensioner pulley without replacing the entire tension arm. All E9X M3’s use p/n 11287838194 as the tensioner arm on the alternator and water pump drive site. It uses a pulley marked F-233151.06 which is sold on its own as INA 5320342100 which cross-references to a BMW idler pulley (OE# 11281440237). Instead of replacing the entire tensioner pulley assembly (pulley + cast lever arm the hydraulic damper attached to), you can just replace the pulley which is a massive cost-saving

Please note: Serpentine belt routing on the alternator/water pump side (red) is the same on all 2008-2013 E9X M3's. Reference the diagram below for routing information:

Accessory Drive Belt Kit

An accessory drive belt, also referred to as a serpentine belt, functions by transferring power from the engine crankshaft to various accessories like the alternator, water pump, power steering pump, and air conditioning compressor. Essentially driving these rotating assembles through a series of pulleys with the belt's rotation. It is important to check the belt for cracks, fraying, or excessive wear during routine maintenance, keeping in mind most manufacturers recommend replacing the accessory drive belt at specified mileage intervals, typically between 50,000 and 100,000 miles. Proper tensioning of the belt is also crucial, so while servicing or inspecting an accessory drive belt, it is important to also inspect the belt tensioner and supporting idler pulleys.
