Easy, great modulation, perfect !
Caveat: I am not a professional mechanic. I am just a 52-year-old guy with good mechanical inclination. I have done 2-5 brake jobs annually on my extended family cars and did rebuild an engine successfully as a teenager. I tend to be cautious in my approach to maintenance and enjoy following the Bentley manual steps when they are available. Summary: These are the smartest brake pads to buy for a street-driven BMW. Full Explanation: On my 3 BMW cars I have tried Textar, Jurid, Pagid, EBC Yellow (maybe Mintex), and actual BMW pads. I have used these pads on Meyle Rotors, OE Rotors, Centric 125 Rotors. I stopped using Akebono ceramic pads perhaps 5-7 years ago when I discovered that good dusty semi-metallic pads provides better modulation, cold bite and feel. In my limited experience, ALL of the above mentioned non-BMW pads are vulnerable to low speed brake squeal in at least some applications. All the less expensive brake pads on my BMW squealed at low speed sooner or later and I have no plans to use these pads again. Even the EBC Yellow pad squealed on the rear of my BMW. It might be possible to purchase less expensive pads with the actual OE compound, but I have tried this multiple times with consistent squeaky failure. The less expensive pad manufacturer might actually produce the real BMW pads, but the braking compounds are NOT the same. Regarding the dust…. Yes, the BMW pads will create dust but this is a worthwhile compromise for the wonderful cold bit and linear brake feel during application. Also, I had a detail guy clean my wife’s car recently and he commented, “I think someone must have used non-BMW brake pads on your wife’s car because the dust was extremely difficult to remove”. He further explained that BMW brake dust is very easy to remove from wheels. Lastly, I recently removed some non BMW squeaky pads from the back of my BMW, and installed real BMW pads intentionally using “neglectful” procedures. I didn’t clean or lube anything. I didn’t resurface the rotors. I was lazy. After installing the BMW pads there was no squeal, performance was good, and after 1000 miles, the braking performance remains terrific! In my opinion, real BMW pads are the smartest purchase for the average for a street-driven BMW.
