Found on the back of the intake manifold

This is a common failure item on most BMW's and is important to engine performance. Failure will cause oil to be pulled inside of the combustion chamber which leads to smoke at the exhaust.

It's What The Doctor Ordered

Solved my vent issues - the old one was not functioning and the hoses coming off it were oozing oil down the back of the engine. Much happier now with all that replaced.
