Product Information

Covers the windshield wiper motors, a common replacement item on higher mileage BMW's

This panel covers your E83 X3's windshield wiper components. This piece usually gets damaged when being removed to work on the wiper system. We recommend replacement if it has been damaged as water can leak into the engine bay.

You may also want to replace left apron cover 51713401653 and right apron cover 51713401654 while replacing the windshield cowl.

Cowl Cover

A cowl cover is a plastic or metal panel located at the base of the windshield, covering the area between the hood and the windshield. It serves to protect windshield wiper components, cabin air filters, and ventilation inlets from debris, water, and dirt while also improving aerodynamics and appearance.

Cowl Cover Failure Symptoms
  • Water leaks into the cabin, often onto the floor or dashboard, due to cracks or poor sealing.
  • Rattling or vibration noises from loose or broken mounting points.
  • Debris accumulation in HVAC system, leading to reduced airflow or foul odors if the cover is damaged or missing.

About Genuine BMW

The original parts used by BMW to build your car are available as replacement parts under the “Genuine BMW” brand. When ordering a Genuine BMW part you are guaranteed to get the same part that you would pick up from your local dealerships part department. Genuine BMW parts have been built to BMW’s stringent standards and are the same quality of the original parts used to build your Ultimate Driving Machine.

You may not realize this, but the parts that make up your BMW are not necessarily manufactured by BMW. No cause for concern, as BMW designs the part, hires a manufacturer, and ensures its quality to you. In fact, many of these manufacturers have been making parts for BMW for decades. In our industry these manufacturers are called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and these are often brands you recognize, including Lemforder, ZF, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Zimmermann, Siemens VDO, Corteco, and more. Don’t be surprised to open that Genuine BMW parts box and find an OEM branded part inside, simply with the addition of a BMW logo.

Be sure to keep an eye out for OE tags on our product pages to quickly identify parts coming direct from OE manufacturers. That extra bit of insight could save you some serious money while shopping! Refer to our OE Academy for further information regarding the OE/OEM tags throughout the site.

Replacement cowl
I purchased this to replace the weathered and damaged cowl on my 2007 BMW X3. This was a perfect fit that installed with no issues and looks great. If you are missing the seals by your cover to your cabin air filter I recommend purchasing this. This is the whole cowl assembly with the seals and cover for the cabin air filter.

E83 Cowl
Broke the original part taking it out. This replacement fit like a glove. Good as new. Item was the original BMW part as far as I could tell.

Windshield Cowl Cover (E83) - Genuine BMW
This cowl cover was shipped to me with 7 cowl clips (BMW Windshield Cowl Clip - Genuine SKU: 51718234698). Tip: I would order the 7 clips regardless, just in case you lose/break one or more, and you don't want to be stuck in the middle of a project waiting for parts to arrive.
