An Engine Control Module (ECM) — also called an Engine Control Unit (ECU) — is the computer that manages and regulates a vehicle’s engine functions. It monitors inputs from sensors throughout the engine and vehicle, then adjusts outputs such as fuel injection, ignition timing, idle speed, and emissions control to optimize performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions.

The ECM is essentially the brain of the engine, ensuring everything works in sync for safe and efficient operation.

• Check Engine Light Illuminates: Often the first indicator of ECM issues, though it can also be triggered by other engine problems.
• Engine Performance Problems: Rough idle, stalling, misfires, hesitation, or poor acceleration.
• Difficulty Starting or No Start: The ECM controls fuel delivery and spark; a malfunction can prevent the engine from starting.
