Product Information

Basic cold climate PCV kit for your E53 X5 3.0i

This PCV kit features all of the cold climate version insulated hoses and valve. This system is standard on most vehicles sold in regions where it is significantly colder than normal. The idea of the insulation is to help prevent condensation inside the hoses from freezing and destroying the system inside out. BMW's breather systems have had this problem especially when the car is driven short distances in cold weather and is never allowed to reach operating temperature.

The plastic in these components deteriorates over time and eventually will crack or break. This will cause vacuum leaks and other detrimental issues which can cause engine damage and poor performance.

Does not include additional installation components. We also offer a more comprehensive kit which includes new dipstick seals, distribution piece o-rings, intake boot, throttle body gasket, and idle control valve gasket.

Note: This is approved for vehicles with Cold Climate Package. It can be installed on BMW's that don't have the cold climate package and this is often an upgrade over the standard system.

Engine Crankcase Breather Hose Kit

An engine crankcase breather hose is a primary component of an engine’s positive crankcase ventilation system, funneling pressurized air from the engine crankcase to the air/oil separator, also known as the PCV valve. The PCV valve, or air/oil separator, is designed to capture and remove oil vapors from the pressurized crankcase air, allowing them to drain back to the engine, while the pressurized air is fed to the intake side of the engine and utilized as part of normal combustion.

An engine develops positive crankcase pressure as a byproduct of the overall combustion process. Because of the combination of pressure, heat, and the air/oil-vapor mixture traveling to the PCV valve, the engine crankcase breather hose is a common failure item within the PCV system and is crucial to your car’s engine’s performance and emissions compliance.

Engine Crankcase Breather Hose Kit Failure Symptoms
  • Cracks breaks, leaks: Over time, your engine crankcase breather hose can be easily damaged because of constant exposure to oil vapors, heat, and pressure from the engine. The engine oil can slowly break down the plastic or rubber materials, eventually causing an air leak. This can happen naturally, or because it is damaged from external contact.
  • Broken connectors: Plastic can become brittle over time, especially when exposed to heat and oil, and it’s easy to break one of the securing clips or connectors for a PCV hose, either during removal or during other services.
  • Broken or damaged hose: Soft rubber or brittle plastic, depending on the material of the hose, can result in an obvious hole or split in an engine crankcase breather hose, usually accompanied by one of the other faults listed below.
  • Check Engine Light: Excessive unmetered air from a failed engine crankcase breather hose can result in a CEL for an air intake leak fault or other airflow-related diagnostic trouble codes.
  • Misfire: A severe air intake leak can cause rough running and an engine misfire, a common side effect of a bad engine crankcase breather hose or PCV Valve
  • Oil residue on or around the hose or adjacent components: As engine crankcase vapors escape from a faulty engine crankcase breather hose, the hose, engine block, and adjacent components are likely to become visibly soiled with oil residue and moisture. In the most severe cases, you will smell burning or burnt oil, and you may need to degrease the area to determine the exact cause of the oil residue.

Decent kit minus unusable vent hose
I installed this kit and everything fit fine except the breather hose Rein ABV0123 (11617533398) that connects from the valve cover to the CCV valve. The hose was completely the wrong angle at the valve connection point. I checked all hoses prior to install and thought I could possibly make this hose work, however, there was no way it would connect to the valve. I had to break the connection ring to get the hose off the valve. Now I'm out the cost of this hose, had to order a genuine BMW hose from the dealer, and now waiting for it to arrive. My vehicle is down until I receive this hose... I read reviews of this hose and there are a lot of people that had the same problem I had. Do yourself a favor and check the reviews of each part in a kit prior to ordering. I would have thought that FCP Euro would have put better parts together for a kit. They need to fix this issue... I'm debating on whether to order anything from this company again!

B.M.W basic cold climate breather system O.E. suplier 11617533400KT?
I ordered this kit for my x5 and they did not send thee oil pcv return hose to dip stick hose . They sent me some screw's I didn't even order. i bought my hose, Had to buy to reassemble, this mistake from fcp.euro, is ,was , very irresponsible, how can you not know what this kit to a pcv unit takes..? Bolt's about 8 of them 3" long ..? Where do these go on the pcv valve..??? That's what I got from you at fcp Euro. I am So glad O'Reilly auto parts has all the correct hoses! Now I'm stuck with bolt's I did not order, and a big headache, due to so much hassle to return, get a refund, from fcp.euro...i will try to again today, maybe I can get my refund , for thee pcv oil return hose that never came with the kit. And a return box (small) with a return labele to fcp.Euro , to send back the screw's I never ordered, that you may need for someone that does need them for their B.M.W. Thank you very much for all the rest of thee part's you have sent me in the past, as you can see I have had a very good experience with all the other parts and all of you! in the past! all parts fit perfect. good quality material. fixed my issues i was having with smoke coming out the exhaust! now my engine can breath properly.

Great Kit
This kit includes all the hoses to do this job, it's a PITA but it can be done in a few hours without even taking the intake manifold off! Trust me, you want the kit, every hose was brittle and disintegrated on every one I've done. This kit gets the whole job done.
