The slave cylinder modulates pedal movements to the clutch pack on BMW's which have hydraulically controlled clutches. The system operates with the use of brake fluid and requires fresh fluid changes before the brake fluid can become acidic and destroy the seals.

Clutch Slave Cylinder

A clutch slave cylinder is a hydraulic component in a manual transmission system that assists in engaging and disengaging the clutch. When the clutch pedal is pressed, hydraulic fluid is forced into the slave cylinder, which then moves the clutch release fork, allowing the driver to shift gears smoothly. It works in tandem with the clutch master cylinder to transfer force from the pedal to the clutch assembly.

Clutch Slave Cylinder Failure Symptoms
  • Difficulty Shifting Gears: If the slave cylinder fails, it may not fully disengage the clutch, making it difficult to shift gears smoothly, especially into first or reverse
  • Soft or Spongy Clutch Pedal: A common symptom is a spongy or soft feel when pressing the clutch pedal, as the slave cylinder fails to build adequate hydraulic pressure
  • Clutch Pedal Stuck to the Floor: In severe cases, the clutch pedal may stick to the floor or be slow to return, preventing proper clutch engagement and making it hard to drive.

Current e9x slave
Early e9x manuals came with all metal slave, this is the current updated part for all e9x. I wish it was metal simply for a metal bleed screw and extra strength. BMW clutches are very difficult to bleed already, and having plastic bleed parts that want to stick together with excessive threads adds to it. Two solid methods I've found are using a suction bleeder with a long hose you can stuff above the trans to elevate the line level. Or you have to remove the slave and manually bleed it by hand (messy, hard, and risk of damaging part). This one fit the Turner Stainless Breaded Clutch Line perfectly. I had to replace the clutch line o rings on the FTE master side with viton brown seals from harbor freight to fit. This is the correct part though and working as should

Not an easy install but can be done
On my 2011 e92 335 x-drive the front propeller shaft really gets in the way. There are 3 tools that are a must so save time so have them on hand. 11mm closed end wrench. Ratcheting wrench with +100 clicks. 120 is great because you will get only one or two clicks at a time. Also a 13mm swivel socket. The rotating ball type. Extensions and a knuckle to change the angle. The lower nut is easy but the other one is on top and only by feel. I would use a pressure system to bleed the line and you will need a body to work the clutch to complete the bleed. I’d say about 5 hours under the car to get it done. If you have rear wheel drive, same process but 50% easier.

Bought this because it is identical to the F30 slave cylinder but without a clutch delay valve. Great price good fitment

Great replacement for OEM
The original OEM unit when I removed it, found the rubber boot torn. Cant replace just the boot, so ordered this replacement. Works great! I did not order the hard line with it, mine was fine. Replacement and bleeding was simple! My 07 335i E93 has a rubber line then the hard line to slave cylinder. I used a soft rag and small vise grips and pinched the rubber line off before disconnecting hard line from cylinder and this prevents losing all fluid in the line and reservoir, remove old, Install new cylinder, unclamp vise grips, fill brake reservoir to full, hold the slave cylinder vertical with bleeder port on slave cylinder being lowest point, open bleeder port and let fluid run until no air, (3-5 seconds) then close valve, fill reservoir again, now compress and release cylinder piston several times whiles it orientation is still vertical (piston downward towards ground) and this bleeds all the air out up to the reservoir. Done! Now install and ops check!

Replacement for 440i
I replaced this in my 440i. It's made for E-series but fits F-series, and it deletes the Clutch Delay Valve in F-series cars with a manual transmission.
