Let's face it, brakes pads hands down are the most important components of our vehicle. Our brake pads allow us to stop our vehicles with a simple push of a brake pedal. Unfortunately they don't last forever and are considered to be a major wear item which must be replaced before they completely wear out and damage the brake rotor costing you more in repairs. Brake pads can be made of several materials such as a semi-metallic compound, ceramic compound, or organic. Brake pads are suggested to be checked frequently during oil changes or routine services for wear to ensure you have at least the minimum pad thickness as stated by the car manufacturer.

No good
Bite is bad and I have to depress the brake pedal much farther now. Low dust sure, but the poor brake feedback and performance outweigh it. No go for me next time!

Not My Favourite
If you're looking for performance pads, these ain't them. They are clean, but now that I've tried semi-metallics, I wouldn't go back to ceramics. If you can find ATE pads, go for it. I tried Hawk Performance pads, but ATE is better in my opinion.

Akebono brake pads
I purchased these pads along with Zimmerman rotors for the front of my 2000 E39 528. I installed them about three weeks ago and have put on about 500 miles so far. I've noticed that the front wheels stay clean as long as the rears, which is highly unusual. However, the "bite" from genuine BMW brake pads is missing. I have to press much harder on the brake pedal in order to stop the car, and I don't like this feeling. I'm going to run them another 500 miles or so and if they don't improve, I'm going back to genuine BMW pads. I'd gladly deal with the brake dust as long as the BMW brake feel is back to what it used to be. My old, genuine BMW pads stopped better when they were worn out than these new Akebonos do after a break in period.

Akebono brake pads
I recently did a brake job on the front of my 2000 BMW 528. I was replacing OEM pads and rotors and decided to use Zimmerman rotors and Akebono brake pads. I was tired of constantly having dirty wheels covered in brake dust and read that Akebono pads basically leave no brake dust and have decent braking performance. So far I probably have driven around 300 miles on the new pads / rotors and am not all that thrilled about braking performance. I have to press much harder on the brake pedal to get the same amount of stopping power. I'm hoping this is still part of the initial brake bedding process and will make my final determination after a few hundred additional miles. If braking performance doesn't improve, I'm going to get OEM brake pads and deal with the brake dust. The car doesn't feel as safe with the lesser braking ability with the Akebono pads.

Very good pads
Love these pads. They don’t create brake dust like cheap pads do. Keeping my BBS RC090s looking fresh. I highly recommend.

No dust, squeals or rattles!
Paired with Meyle rotors and I'm happy with this setup on my 2003 525i after 34K miles (rear pads are wearing a bit quicker than front). Prior pads (unknown mfr) didn't dust but the squeals and rattles went away.

Fantastic dust-free pads
As advertised, these pads are virtually dust-free. My rear wheels now get darker from the OEM pads while my front wheels stay so much cleaner. They do take a bit longer to bed in but after about a week, they stop great and quiet while wet or dry.

2003 525i no more brake dust
Tired of cleaning brake dust off your wheels? Used to have to clean the wheels every 2 weeks. Replaced both front and rear with these 7K ago and now only clean the wheels when I wash the car. These are quality parts that fit perfectly, don't make any noise and I can't tell any difference in performance from stock. From now on, I won't buy any thing else.
