BMW B58 Engine Oil Filter Housing Replacement Kit - 11428583895KT2

BMW's B58 engine has shown itself to be a robust and reliable engine across numerous platforms. However, nothing is perfect. One engineering decision BMW decided to make was constructing the oil filter housing from a plastic composite. One thing that seems to be a common theme when plastic composites are used is they tend to fail in the long run.

The oil filter housing on the B58 engine over time has shown itself to be a major weak point. There are a few common failure modes:

• Oil filters breaking inside the oil filter housing (noted in SIB 11 01 20)
• Broken housing due to overtightening of oil filter cap
• Leaking from perimeters of oil filter housing
• Coolant and oil mixing due to cross-contamination from the degradation of the oil filter housing

In any of the above cases, the oil filter housing is going to need to be replaced as an entire assembly. To perform this job you are going to need to remove the intake manifold/charge cooler assembly, strut tower reinforcement brace, and a whole bunch of plumbing. This kit includes all the base components you will need to replace the oil filter housing as an entire assembly. The replacement oil filter housing includes the oil filter housing gasket set, p/n 11428583896, engine oil cooler seal set, p/n 11428583897, oil filter, p/n 11428583898, and oil filter cap, p/n 11428583900.

This kit is intended for automatic transmission vehicles. You will need to check the fill level and add transmission fluid to the automatic transmission because the trans cooler system needs to be opened. You will want to order an 8HP compatible transmission fluid, G48 (Blue) or HT12 (Green) antifreeze depending on your vehicle and what coolant fill it has, plus your choice of 7 liters of engine oil (see recommended items for suggestions).

Critical Torque specifications:
Oil-To-Water Engine Oil Cooler - 10Nm
Oil Filter Housing To Engine Block - 4Nm joining torque, 10Nm final torque
Engine oil drain plug - 25Nm
Transmission oil cooler to crankcase - 8Nm
Oil filter cover/cap - 25Nm
Intake plenum to cylinder head - 5Nm joining torque, 10Nm final torque
Intake plenum to rear/front support - 10Nm
Top rear cross connection - 19Nm
Front cross connection - 11.8Nm
Front-end strut to cross connection - 28Nm + 90°
Front-end strut / strut brace - 56Nm + 90°
Thrust field to front axle support - 25Nm + 70°
Charge air duct to throttle body - 8Nm
Transmission fill plug - 35Nm
