Axles can fail for a variety of reasons. After countless of thousands of miles and years exposed to the elements; axle boots tear and CV joints become weak. If your axle CV boots are torn and leaking you may have to replace the entire axle assembly.
The CV (Constant Velocity) axle assembly is responsible for transferring torque and rotational power from the transmission to the wheels while allowing for suspension movement and steering articulation. The CV axle consists of a shaft with joints at both ends: a CV joint that connects the axle to the transmission and another CV joint that connects the axle to the wheel hub. This design allows the axle to handle changes in angle and length as the vehicle moves, especially when turning or going over bumps.
CV Axle Assembly Failure Symptoms- Clicking or Popping Noises: One of the most common signs of a failing CV axle is a clicking or popping noise when turning the vehicle. This noise typically occurs when the CV joint is damaged or worn out, especially during sharp turns.
- Vibration While Driving: A failing CV axle can cause noticeable vibrations while driving, especially at higher speeds. This vibration may indicate that the axle is bent, or damaged, or that the CV joints are worn out.
- Grease Leaks: If the CV axle boot tears or cracks, grease can leak out. You may notice grease on the inside of the wheel or around the CV joint. This can lead to increased wear on the joint due to a lack of lubrication.

This axle I received for the left side has defective threads on the shaft. The axle nut won’t tighten to spec do to the threads. After reaching out to customer service, this is how they will resolve this issue.

- Use it (Have yet to use it, it’s defective)
- Replace it (So what do I do to get it replaced)?
I’m just lost at what steps to take due to the circumstances.

Just want buyers to be aware of the major inconvenience you can face due to a defective product purchased from FCP, as I have experienced here with the purchase of this axle.
I replaced these as a pair and the left side came as a solid bar type axel not the tubular pictured here. The original that I removed was tubular design. The replacement also did not want to seat as easily against the differential but I was able to seat it using the bolts turning each a half turn and crisscrossing my way around the bolt pattern. I was a little disappointed that the axel was not of the same design as the right side and seemed lower quality that the right side and cost about 50% more than the right side. If you are ordering 2 I would recommend you ask them to match them before shipping so you get the same design right and left. Also ask them whether to use the original nut or the one the comes with the axel shaft as the one shipped with the axel has an odd raised section of the seating area that looked so different from stock that I avoided it but now I am thinking that it make be designed take up space at the end of the axel in the hub to allow these aftermarket axels to be built slightly shorter than stock and still work.

2009 e90 328i sedan. This GKN OE axle seems to have done away with the traditional Reluctor Ring and now has a similar function that has been built/cast into the area where the Reluctor Ring used to be...is this an accurate observation? Please advise. Tks

The reluctor ring for the ABS wheel speed sensor is still a traditional style. It's not casted but it is pressed on and there is no replacement for it making it a non serviceable item.
