BMW Seat Adjustment Motor - Genuine BMW 52107068045

The passenger thigh cushion on my E60 550i stopped moving... this is puzzling since the passenger seat is rarely used and my wife would never fiddle with the thigh adjustment anyway. But I digress. So I researched the problem on various BMW discussion boards and decided the motor/gearbox seemed simple enough to replace in my garage. Caveat: I’m a mechanical engineer and an experienced car guy, so my skill level is probably several notches above the typical DIYer. Just sayin’... Anyway, I intentionally bought the motor from FCP because of their lifetime warranty just in case this motor design is “problematic”. Removal is fairly straightforward even with the seat mounted in the car, although it does require some agility if you’re a tall guy like me. The motor/gearbox assembly is “less easy” to install and it requires a lot of patience to wiggle it into the exact position (after numerous attempts). Meanwhile, the sprockets tend to slip out of alignment, which can add to the frustration level. Allow yourself 2 hours. Once installed, it operated flawlessly and now three years later it’s still working well (I actuate the thigh cushion every time I vacuum the floor). If you’re mechanically inclined, you can do this yourself. If not, bring it to a mechanic and go to Starbucks.
