Product Information

This is an OEM AC Expansion Valve and is part of your BMW's HVAC system. Control units, air ducts, blower motors, and all related parts make up the critical parts of your BMW's HVAC system. These are all wear items and can suffer from failure necessitating replacement.

A/C Expansion Valve

An A/C expansion valve's primary function is to regulate the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator, where it absorbs heat and cools the air inside the vehicle. The expansion valve reduces the pressure of the refrigerant, allowing it to expand and cool before it enters the evaporator coils. This process is essential for efficient cooling and overall performance of the A/C system.

A/C Expansion Valve Failure Symptoms
  • Poor Cooling Performance: One of the most common symptoms of a failing expansion valve is reduced cooling efficiency. The air coming from the vents may not be as cold as expected, even when the A/C system is running
  • Frost or Ice Build-Up: If the expansion valve is stuck open, too much refrigerant may enter the evaporator, leading to excessive cooling and ice formation on the evaporator coils. This can cause airflow restrictions and further decrease cooling efficiency
