Product Information

The AC compressor is never appreciated until it's sweltering outside. It's when it's humid and hot when you truly begin to appreciate your BMW's air conditioning system. In addition to keeping you cool during the heat of summer the AC compressor is also important for defrosting windows as well.

If your BMW's AC compressor isn't working, leaking, or you can hear squealing sounds when the compressor is engaged it will need to be replaced. Remember, your A/C compressor isn't just a comfort item but it's also a safety item.

A/C Compressor

The A/C compressor is responsible for providing the system pressure necessary to move refrigerant throughout the A/C system. Without adequate system pressure, the refrigerant will not adequately cool the air in your vehicle's cabin. An A/C system that is not blowing cold air or intermittently blowing cold air can be caused by an A/C compressor. Some simple checks that can be performed before condemning an A/C compressor are, verifying system refrigerant, verifying plausible values from all temperature and pressure sensors, and verifying command signals from the HVAC control unit.

A/C Compressor Failure Symptoms
  • No A/C clutch engagement
  • Variable displacement solenoid failure
  • Noise on engagement
  • Intermittent cooling

AC works again!
I bought this to replace the original compressor on my 2009 E70 X5. It is a tight fit, as someone said, but otherwise it works great. I did have to buy the bolts separately.

BMW A/C Compressor - Nissens 890038
Great quality and very nicely packaged to avoid damage. Comes pre oiled therefore no need to purchase extra PAG oil, had new bolts with it also. However the sensor plug was a bit bigger than the original and created a bit less clearance. Didn't affect anything still bolted on but tight fit..

Hi, I read in the reviews that this unit is pre-filled with oil? So none is needed to be added? Also, the review stated it comes with new mounting bolts? Thank you, Henry
