About Genuine BMW

The original parts used by BMW to build your car are available as replacement parts under the “Genuine BMW” brand. When ordering a Genuine BMW part you are guaranteed to get the same part that you would pick up from your local dealerships part department. Genuine BMW parts have been built to BMW’s stringent standards and are the same quality of the original parts used to build your Ultimate Driving Machine.

You may not realize this, but the parts that make up your BMW are not necessarily manufactured by BMW. No cause for concern, as BMW designs the part, hires a manufacturer, and ensures its quality to you. In fact, many of these manufacturers have been making parts for BMW for decades. In our industry these manufacturers are called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and these are often brands you recognize, including Lemforder, ZF, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Zimmermann, Siemens VDO, Corteco, and more. Don’t be surprised to open that Genuine BMW parts box and find an OEM branded part inside, simply with the addition of a BMW logo.

Be sure to keep an eye out for OE tags on our product pages to quickly identify parts coming direct from OE manufacturers. That extra bit of insight could save you some serious money while shopping! Refer to our OE Academy for further information regarding the OE/OEM tags throughout the site.

Not so sure yet
I know this is supposed to be a BMW LL01 spec oil however, this natural gas to liquid stuff from shell may need some time to grow on me. Ever since BMW switched to this oil, I have been chasing oil leaks mysteriously. Could be that my BMW is almost 15 years old but, seemed that when I went from BMW Castrol 5w30 to this Shell Twin Turbo 5w30 oil, the leaks started like immediately after the oil change. So far I've replaced: Rear main engine seal, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, all new PCV system including hoses, dip stick tube O-Ring, various sensor O-rings, oil filter cover O-Ring seeps oil (it's new by the way), oil line seals, cam sensor o-rings. Replaced entire vacuum system lines, valves, hoses, oil separator valve, etc.. finally got it to stop leaking. I think this stuff is very thin like a creeping oil but with high sheer (LL01). Although I'm sure its good and does its job well, not sure about this oil in an older car. Leaks are fixed but watching closely with this oil in there.

Good stuff, cannot go wrong
Cannot go wrong with the original oil. BMW uses Shell/Pennzoil to manufacture their oil now, shell uses an interesting method of producing the oils base called GTL (Gas to Liquid) where they convert natural gas into a liquid that they can in turn make lubricants and whatnot. Interesting stuff and from what I gather it's a very clean oil, nearly truly synthetic if I am not mistaken. Anyways, anything with the LL01 spec will do your BMW fine and should hold up to the factory specified oil change mileage should you choose to do so. I purchased this over the others because I could get it at the same price or less than comparable products from my local dealer. Auto part stores usually don't even have a motor oil with the LL01 spec and if they do, it's nearly $10 a quart. * I didn't purchase this through FCP as I purchased it from the local dealership.*

Great oil, good price
Correct oil for the correct car; can't beat that. I find it hard to keep up with off-brand oils who may briefly meet the BMW standard, then don't. You have to check every bottle, every time. The price here makes it a no brainer.

Question Posted by Omar
for my 2011 X3 28i - should I use 5w-30 or 0w-40?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
LL-01 is a BMW spec that describes certain oil performance attributes. LL-01 can be 0W30, 5W30, 0W40, or 5W40. Any of the weights in question will be compatible for your 2011 X3 xDrive28i.
Question Posted by Osmar
The description says it meets API SN specifications but the preview picture says it meets API SL, I just want to make sure this product does in fact meet API SN certification. Thanks
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Thank you for pointing this out. It seems like an error on our part in the listing description. This fluid is in fact SL rated not SN rated. I do not see a SN rating for this fluid in North America at this time.

Answer: (Posted by: FCP Product Team) BMW is currentoy transitioning LL-01 5W30 and LL-01FE 0W30 for many newer cars. I have 2012 528i F10 N20. Does that help with identifying needed oil?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Your vehicle can use either 5W30 or 0W30. It doesn't particularly make a difference for a 2012 model as they were originally filled with 5W30.
Question Posted by a customer
This oil goes up to MY 2011, but I have a 2012. Which Twin Turbo oil would I use for my F10?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
BMW is currentoy transitioning LL-01 5W30 and LL-01FE 0W30 for many newer cars. Which BMW do you have specifically?
Question Posted by ERIC
Hi, can i use this oil on BMW 320i of year 2000?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Totally compatible as long as the vehicle is in North America.
Question Posted by Serkan
Dealer says oil change interval 15.000 miles or 1 year which ever comes first, but I think too much is that true?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
The new oil change interval published by BMW has been changed from 15K to 10K due to carbon and sludge build up occurring in the cylinder head. The 10K oil change interval is still too long. 5K is the industry standard for oil changes using synthetic oil and ensures the engine can operate cleanly.
Question Posted by Serkan
What is oil change interval?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Generally speaking it is recommended to do an oil change every 5K miles.
Question Posted by a customer
Can i use this oil for a 2006 Bmw 325i 3.0 liter
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Yes.
Question Posted by Sara
Why is this BMW oil made in the United States? I thought BMW oil is made in Germany? And does this fit a 2002 bmw 325i? Thanks
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Dealer oil approved for use in the United States has always been manufactured in the United States. In this case, it's manufactured by Shell specifically for BMW of North America and meets BMW LL-01 specifications. It is recommended for use with your 2002 325i along with any other oil meeting BMW LL-01 specifications.
Question Posted by a customer
Can I use this oil on my 2008 535I? I did not see my model on the fitment description.
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Yes, this is the BMW approved oil for a 2008 535i.
