Product Information

Your alternator is what charges your car's battery and provides all the electricity your car uses including the headlights and starter (the largest energy consumers). If your headlights are dim, or your car is difficult to start, you need to troubleshoot your charging system including the battery and alternator for possible replacement.

Alternator

If your car is running out of power (literally) it's likely due to a worn or failing alternator. Your vehicles car battery is responsible for storing enough energy to start the car while the alternator powers all the vehicles systems with the engine running while maintaining a battery charge. If your car dies while driving and the battery has little to no charge it's most likely due to a failed or failing alternator. Before condemning an alternator you can perform a simple test with a DVOM (digital volt meter). Also make sure the belt which drives the alternator is properly tensioned as well.

Alternator Failure Symptoms
  • Battery drains while car is running
  • Low voltage generated while car is running
  • Dim or flickering headlights
  • Dim or flickering interior lights
  • Electrical systems such as the radio, power windows, sunroof do not function

Bad quality control.
The pulley was actually smaller than the one on my original alternator so that caused the belt to slip off. Unfortunately I took about 8 months to get around to doing this project and notice this flaw but by then it was to late. Now I have a useless alternator.....

Bad quality control.
Put this alternator on my car and it caused my belt to partially slip over the edge on my a/c condenser. I tried three times to re set it and try to fix the issue to no prevail. So I took it to the mechanic and now $1,600.00 later I'm told I need a jew alternator cause it's the alternator causing the belt to slip not the pulleys being unaliened. The other pulleys were fine. It was all this alternator. Don't waste your money or time on this.

Bosch Alternator
Purchased this part for my car, with core charge. Given previous good service from FCP I believed the core return would be covered as it is with MANY other auto parts places. To my amazement (and amusement) the $100 core charge was pretty much negated by my being required to pay $85 in postage to return the old unit. Unlike FCP, I don't get volume discounts from the courier services industry so I was pretty much screwed out of my core. The $200 alternator became a $300 unit and is now a makeshift boat anchor. Oh, and the one they sent me just crapped out less than a month after installation. Not looking forward to dealing with this issue in the morning...
