180 amp remanufactured alternator, includes pulley

If your BMW is running out of power (literally) it's likely due to a worn or damaged alternator. The battery on board the car stores enough power to start the car while the alternator is responsible for powering the car while it's running as well as maintaining the battery charge. If the alternator is not charging the battery you will run out of power since the battery alone can't support all of your BMW's functions.

If your car is running out of power (literally) it's likely due to a worn or failing alternator. Your vehicles car battery is responsible for storing enough energy to start the car while the alternator powers all the vehicles systems with the engine running while maintaining a battery charge. If your car dies while driving and the battery has little to no charge it's most likely due to a failed or failing alternator. Before condemning an alternator you can perform a simple test with a DVOM (digital volt meter). Also make sure the belt which drives the alternator is properly tensioned as well.

Don't risk it!
I bought this alternator to replace my OEM one which had failed. It was working fine for about 2 days then the car died again even with a brand-new healthy battery. Upon troubleshooting I found that the alternator would sometimes charge properly (13.8v-14v) and sometimes it would be way under the acceptable voltage (11.2v). I verified that other components like the IBS was working and verified all the connections making sure the BSD wire is connecting and verified load to the DME. My conclusion is the same as a few others that I spoke to, we think that the voltage regulator inside the alternator isn't functioning properly creating an intermittent charging issue.

Non Functional Voltage Regulator
TLDR, just get the Valeo alternator This was remanufactured using the OE Valeo chip for the voltage regulator but upon install, still got a 278C code for "Alternator Communication" essentially the DME was unable to talk to the alternator to allow it to vary alternator duty cycle based on the engine load and needs; essentially making the alternator run at 100% duty cycle like a dummy generator. Still works, but does not run efficiently
