120 amp, brand new compact alternator

If your BMW is running out of power (literally) it's likely due to a worn or damaged alternator. The battery on board the car stores enough power to start the car while the alternator is responsible for powering the car while its running as well as maintaining the batter charge. If the alternator is not charging the battery you will run out of power since the battery alone can't support all of your BMW's functions.

If your car is running out of power (literally) it's likely due to a worn or failing alternator. Your vehicles car battery is responsible for storing enough energy to start the car while the alternator powers all the vehicles systems with the engine running while maintaining a battery charge. If your car dies while driving and the battery has little to no charge it's most likely due to a failed or failing alternator. Before condemning an alternator you can perform a simple test with a DVOM (digital volt meter). Also make sure the belt which drives the alternator is properly tensioned as well.

  • Dim or flickering headlights
  • Dim or flickering interior lights
  • Electrical systems such as the radio, power windows, sunroof do not function

Works but loud
This is a very noisy alternator. Has a signature whine that the OE alt did not have. But it works and does the job at a more affordable price.

Fixed Loud Pulley Noise
Had a very loud noise from one of the pulleys. After replacing water pump, power steering pump, and idle pulleys. It turned out to be the alternator and it has been quiet and performing as it should!

Made for e46 M3 but won’t come up under search
This alternator works great and it’s an OEM replacement without the BMW stamp. If you search “e46 m3 alternator” it doesn’t come up so you really have to go looking for it. This is a brand new OE replacement unit and works better than any rebuilt part. Lifetime warranty can’t be beat!

Let’s see how long it lasts
Bought a factory unit from Tischer for $500. Lasted all of 6 months, called them and in order to warranty it they wanted me to go to a dealership and have them replace it. Forget it, bought this one from FCP, if it dies I know they will stand behind it.

Valeo Alternator as OEM E46M3 replacement
At just 60,000 miles I got the dreaded battery light in my M3. As is common, the stock alternator had just died out of the blue. After extensive research I came to find tons of mixed reviews about a good alternator replacement. I'm usually a straight OEM guy, but looking into it, BMW doesn't even manufacture genuine replacements anymore, they just resell. So instead of paying double for a remanufactured unit, I went with the brand new Valeo option.
