Complete oil change kit for your E9X M3 featuring Motul 10W60 and an OEM Mahle oil filter kit

Engine oil in any vehicle is a critical lifeline. This is especially true in the case of the BMW S65 V8. Regular servicing not only maintains current levels of performance but also helps reduce wear. BMW stipulates that the oil should be changed every 15,000 miles. We and other enthusiasts do not agree with this philosophy. Instead, we recommend oil changes every 5,000 miles under normal use to prevent sludge buildup and to ensure that the engine has fresh oil.

Please note: Tightening torque for the M12x1.5 oil drain plugs is 25Nm (~18.5 ft lbs) of torque. The oil filter cap on top of the oil filter housing is to be torqued to 40Nm (~29.5 ft lbs) of torque. You can use a 36mm, 6 point socket for removal of the oil filter housing cap or order special socket CTA-2574

Engine Oil Change Kit

Over time, oil breaks down, collects dirt and debris, and loses its lubricating properties, making it ineffective. An oil change kit offers all the necessary components for replacing the old, dirty engine oil with fresh oil to properly lubricate the engine components. Symptoms include: dark or dirty oil, unusual engine noises like knocking, increased engine heat, reduced fuel efficiency, smoke from the exhaust, and often on newer models and maintenance warning lights.

Engine Oil Change Kit Failure Symptoms
  • Dark or dirty oil: When you check the dipstick, if the oil appears black or very dark, it's likely time for an oil change.
  • Engine knocking sounds: A knocking or tapping sound from the engine can indicate insufficient lubrication due to old oil.
  • Increased engine temperature: Dirty oil is less efficient at dissipating heat, leading to higher engine temperatures

Engine runs more quietly than LM
The lifters are more quiet when I run this oil vs Liqui Moly

Not a huge fan
My S65 had never burned a single drop of oil until I changed to these. These seem to run slightly warmer, as well. Not a huge fan as I had good experience with OE Castrol & Motul 300V previously.

E9X M3 Oil
Compared to other reviews, I actually found that this oil ran significantly cooler and took longer to get up to temp. compared to LM. Motul seems to be slightly thicker cold, as it has definitely calmed down my cold start valvetrain noise. Overall, great oil, especially on track/canyon as it runs noticeably cooler (hardly breaking 210 when pushing the car, compared to LM being about 240-250 when pushed).

Good for colder climates
Had no issues with this and in climates where it's generally cooler such as up north, it does the job well. I will concur with the other review as I'd imagine in high heat areas, LM might be the better choice.

S65 Oil change
This is my first time using Motul 10W-60. First time out was this passed weekend. Car is running hotter at highway speeds. Fine in the city but as soon as you start a 20min hwy run at 80-90MPH I'm well above the 210 mark. Not overheating but definitely running hotter with this oil than I was with the Castrol and Liqui-moly. I live in Dallas TX. Keeping an eye on it but likely going to change back to Liqui-moly with the next oil change. Ambient around 95F on Sunday. Was running right at 210 on 100+ days with the Liqui moly 10W60. Just sharing my experience. Probably okay for milder climates but it's already way too hot/humid here in north TX. Can't roll the dice on higher engine temps in this climate.
