Coil Spring Lowering Kit

A coil spring lowering kit is a set of specially designed coil springs that replace the original springs on a vehicle to lower its ride height. This modification is often sought by car enthusiasts to improve handling, reduce body roll, and enhance the vehicle’s appearance with a sportier, lower stance. The springs in a lowering kit are typically stiffer than stock springs, which reduces suspension travel and can improve cornering stability.

Key Benefits

  • Improved Handling: Lowering the center of gravity can reduce body roll and improve handling during cornering, offering a more responsive and stable ride
  • Enhanced Appearance: A lowered stance can give the vehicle a more aggressive and streamlined look, often popular in sports and custom car cultures.

About HR

In the late 1970’s Mr. Werner Heine (H) and Mr. Heinz Remmen (R) saw the need for an improved street suspension with a strong belief that vehicles could have more control and better handling. Today, every spring produced by H&R comes from the H&R ISO 9001 certified engineering and manufacturing facility in Germany. H&R Sport Springs offer the handling characteristics and aggressive appearance that you’ve been looking for, without the harsh ride characteristics of less-advanced spring systems. H&R Sport Springs feature more control and are engineered for the street, making them comfortable and fun to drive. Over the years, H&R has developed a diverse line of products and suspension applications including four different spring product lines, six different coil over product lines, two different Cup Kit product lines, a sway bar program, the largest wheel spacer and adapter program in the industry, camber adjustment bolts, a lightweight line of I.D. Personal Opinion: A Tad Too Low and Harsh
I originally bought this set of lowering springs as a cheaper alternative to replacing the factory springs. The fit and finish of the springs are top notch quality. The coating seems durable and they fit in the factory spring perches perfectly. (The rest of this is personal preference and not a comment on the quality of the item.) Based on forum reviews, I knew the car would be a little lower and firmer, but tolerable. However, the changes were much greater than expected. I expected the car to drop by about 0.5" to 0.75" but it dropped about 1.5". The tires (which are factory size on factory wheels) now rub the fenders in anything but a perfectly flat corner. Also, the bottom of the car now scrapes on some speed bumps and even some roads where I live. (Southeastern PA) The ride is much harsher than I originally expected. (This is not entirely to be blamed on the springs and I have also replaced the shocks with Koni Sport Yellows adjusted to the softest setting. I have also replaced all rubber bushings with new OE equivalents.) PA roads are not enjoyable with this setup as anything but new asphalt send constant vibrations/bumps into my spine. In fact, I need to keep adjusting my rear-view mirror as it just bounces down towards the floor now. At this point, I will continue to drive it around carefully until I get the energy up to replacing the new springs and shocks with factory components to bring civility back into the car. The most disappoint thing is with all of the lowered ride height and firmer suspension, it handles no better than the factory setup did.
