Genuine Audi Engine Oil Dipstick

The purpose of the engine oil dipstick is to check your oil level to see if you are low on oil or overfilled. The top of the engine oil dip stick is plastic and overtime it can become brittle resulting in it breaking on you. We recommend to inspect your oil dipstick every oil change service to make sure it is not deteriorating.

Engine Oil Dipstick

An engine oil dipstick is a simple tool used to measure the oil level in an engine, and a metering stick to dip into the oil sump. It is a long, narrow metal or plastic rod that fits into a tube that leads directly to the engine’s oil sump or oil pan. At the end of the dipstick is a marked section, indicating the minimum and maximum oil levels. Many manufacturers include the oil volume distance from min to max in your owner's manual, and it will vary from vehicle to vehicle.

There are three common reasons why you may want to replace a dipstick. Leaky o-rings can cause oil weeping and dripping, causing a mess. The indicator section at the bottom can become obscured, scratched, or damaged resulting in a false reading. Finally, because of the conditions inside the engine bay, the dipstick handle can become brittle and break.

Engine Oil Dipstick Failure Symptoms
  • Oil Leaks: The engine oil dipstick effectively plugs the oil sump from the outside world. If the o-rings or seals are old, flat, or missing, the dipstick tube will leak oil. Leaky o-rings can also cause potential ingress of outside grit or debris which you do not want in your engine.
  • Broken dipstick handle: Heat cycling, exposure to chemicals, and age will degrade plastic-handled dipsticks, causing them to break.
  • Hard to read indicator: Depending on the manufacturer, the indicator section or measurement area at the bottom of the dipstick can become stained, cracked, or otherwise hard to read. If you can’t easily and quickly identify the oil level from the dipstick, then it should be replaced to avoid a potential failure later on.

About Genuine Audi

The original parts used by Audi to build your car are available as replacement parts under the “Genuine Audi” brand. Manufactured under the direction of Audi, expect excellent quality and a premium price since these parts are available exclusively through the Audi Dealership network.

You may not realize this, but the parts that make up your Audi are not necessarily manufactured by Audi. No cause for concern, as Audi designs the part, hires a manufacturer, and ensures its quality to you. In fact, many of these manufacturers have been making parts for Audi for decades. In our industry these manufacturers are called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and these are often brands you recognize, including Lemforder, ZF, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Zimmermann, Siemens VDO, Corteco, and more. Don’t be surprised to open that Genuine Audi parts box and find an OEM branded part inside, simply with the addition of an Audi logo.

Be sure to keep an eye out for OE tags on our product pages to quickly identify parts coming direct from OE manufacturers. That extra bit of insight could save you some serious money while shopping! Refer to our OE Academy for further information regarding the OE/OEM tags throughout the site.

Dipstick
Ended up being too short on a 2013 Audi Q7 3.0t. Fitment says its a match but it was about a quarter inch to 3/8 too short so its not accurate. I also have a 2015 Q7 3.0t, I compared it and its definitely shorter than OEM. This is supposedly an OEM Audi part so either its not or maybe the Q7 3,0t uses something different?

Solid dipstick that works any time you pop the hood.
Solid dipstick that works for the Audi 3.0T engine. As a backup to the electronic oil level sensor. Quicker than relying on the electric sensor for a reading.

2014 sq5 3.0 tfsi perfect fit
Great for the 3.0 tfsi. More peace of mind than trusting the electronic one. Buy it!

Should have come from the factory.
Easy to install, feels a little flimsy but I've had mine about 2 years and its still holding up well.

Accurate and peace of mind
Dipstick is accurate even with the MMI. Installed and works perfectly in my B8 S4. Definitely needed for my piece of mind, not sure if I can trust a sensor on a screen quite yet.

Audi Oil Dipstick - Genuine Audi VW 06E115611H
Although the world is moving to automation even faster than we may like, being able to physically look at the level of oil on this dipstick assures me that I dont have too little or too much fluid. Sometimes its the little things that matter.

Oil Dipstick
Fits perfectly for a 2014 Audi A6 3.0. Was happy to learn that my engine has a place for a dipstick. I don't always trust the electronic reading of oil level and preferred the old fashion way of checking the dipstick. Simply locate the tube toward front of engine near the oil fill cap which has a plug in it; remove plug and replace with dipstick. Aftermarket dipstick may work just as well --- for the additional $10 I chose to go with the OEM part. FYI... a few years ago I purchased an aftermarket dipstick to replace a broken Volvo XC-70 dipstick only to learn it has a good fit but is off slightly in measuring oil levels.

Perfect fit for 2016 SQ5
Although I'm sure the oil level sensor is accurate, there's nothing quite as fool proof as a manual dipstick. This fits right in place of the OE dipstick cap that was on my 2016 SQ5 3.0T. Being an OE part I'm sure this will last the life of the vehicle.

Audi Oil Dipstick
Fit perfectly. Took 5 seconds to pull off original 'plug' and stick this in. Measures oil level well. Good backup to MMI oil level display. Car is 2012 Audi A6 Prestige.

Love it
For some reason b8 a4's did not come with a real dipstick, instead a crappy useless plug in place of a dipstick. I love this dipstick, I can physically see my oil level and condition now instead of trusting the car's computer to tell me the level.

Replacement for "Fake" Factory Dipstick
Great and simple improvement for my 2013 S4. The car comes with a small black plastic cap where a dipstick would be from factory because the car measures the oil electronically. Although the MMI system is clever, I prefer to have a physical dipstick to measure the oil in my car and this part fit perfectly.

Works better than OEM
If you own a newer Audi you'll notice that you have a "plug" where your dipstick should be. It annoyed me so I bought this. Works as it should if you're like me and don't trust your cars MMI to tell you how much oil is left then this is for you. Another plus is that its cheaper than ECS's 60$ price tag for theirs.

Audi Oil Dipstick
Can't believe that $52K car does not come with a dipstick. But FCP had me covered. The dipstick works better than having to go through the MMI. The quality of the dipstick is top notch.

Easy install
Less than 30 seconds to replace OEM Audi plug and install this dipstick. Used it to measure my oil level after my last oil change.

A "must have" if you own any Audi or any car where the oil level in your car depends on an electrical oil quantity sensor. They work well but if you want an exact and true reading, make the investment in this tool. Lastly, no matter what you do, run your engine needing a bit of oil rather than over filling it, if you over fill it than it will surely drain your wallet, ask any mechanic.
