A door check (also called a door stay, door limiter, or check strap) is a small mechanical component installed between the car door and the body. Its purpose is to control how far the door opens and to hold it in partially or fully open positions. This prevents the door from swinging too wide or closing unintentionally (such as on a slope or in windy conditions).

• Door won’t stay open – swings freely instead of holding at fixed points.
• Popping or clicking noises – noticeable when opening or closing the door.
• Stiff or rough door movement – resistance or binding when moving the door.
