A distributor is a crucial component of a vehicle's ignition system, responsible for delivering high voltage current from the ignition coil to the spark plugs which ignite the fuel and air mixture in the engine. It acts as a mechanical switch, precisely opening and closing to distribute the high voltage to each spark plug in the correct firing order.

The distributor typically consists of a rotating shaft, which is connected to a camshaft or engine's crankshaft, a cap, and a rotor.
