Product Information

Hensgt Engine Crankcase Vent Valve - PCV Valve

A crankcase breather is also known as a crankcase oil separator or crankcase ventilation. As its name, the function of the oil separator filter is to clean the oil mist from the engine crankcase. A PCV System, crankcase ventilation system or breather system is a system designed to release pressurized gasses from an engine in a controlled manner.

Engine Crankcase Vent Valve

The engine crankcase vent valve, also referred to as the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve, is part of a vehicle’s emission control system. It helps manage the pressure inside the engine’s crankcase by allowing gases that build up in the crankcase to be vented back into the intake manifold. These gases are then burned in the combustion process, reducing harmful emissions. The PCV valve also prevents oil contamination and helps maintain proper engine performance by controlling the amount of blow-by gases (unburned fuel and air mixture) escaping from the combustion chamber.

Engine Crankcase Vent Valve Failure Symptoms
  • Rough Idle or Engine Misfire: A faulty or clogged PCV valve can cause the air-fuel mixture in the engine to become unbalanced, leading to rough idling or even engine misfires, especially when the car is idling.
  • Oil Consumption: A faulty vent valve can cause pressure to build up inside the crankcase, which may push oil out through seals or gaskets, resulting in oil leaks. Excessive pressure can also force oil into the intake manifold, leading to increased oil consumption.
  • Sludge Buildup: If the valve is stuck closed or blocked, the blow-by gases can’t escape the crankcase properly. This can cause condensation and oil to mix, forming sludge inside the engine. This sludge can block oil passages, leading to lubrication issues and engine damage over time.

Part went bad within 8 months.
I replaced my OE PCV with this model 8 months ago. At first, my oil consumption decreased, but now it's gone back to almost where it was before. I have also noticed extreme crankcase pressure recently which points to a faulty part. Overall very dissatisfied with the quality of the part and won't be buying another one of the Hengst brand PCV's.

The part was bad
I replaced this valve, which takes quite a while to do on your own. After installation it’s still doing the same thing. I’m trying to replace it under warranty and just a few years ago it was $185 and now it’s $440!!! Wow!!!

Questions & Answers

Question Posted by a customer
Alot of these vehicles are having oil consumption issues. Audi had an update PCV come out with new tuning. Sounded like the PCV was suctioning the crancase with the pcv and causing oil consumption issues. Is this the most current PCV from the Audi TSBs? Part numbers for research and reference. 150 MBAR is what you want with the new tuning? Parts catalog mentions the original CCBA PCV is 30 mbar. So both the 2.0T and 3.0T had a 5x increase in the vacuum level. The 3.0T 30 mbar PCV is 06E103547 F > Q > AC. The 3.0T 150 mbar PCV is 06E103547 H > S > AB > AH. The 3.0T evo (CRE) 150 mbar PCV is 06E103547 N > AD > AF. So there is only the single replacement part today for either pressure configuration?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
AF is the latest PCV based on OE part number. There are no additional supersessions after AF currently, so it would appear to be the updated and used version. According to Audi in reference to these TSBs and the owners manual for these vehicles - "Depending on how you drive and the conditions in which the car is used, oil consumption can be up to 0.5 ltr/1000km or 0.5ltr/600 miles on non-RS models and up to 0.8ltr/1000km or 1qt/600 miles on RS models. Oil consumption is likely to be higher for the first 5000km or 3000 miles." - Just something to keep in mind with the potentially excessive (or potentially normal) oil consumption.
