Product Information

Clutch Slave Cylinder

A clutch slave cylinder is a hydraulic component in a manual transmission system that assists in engaging and disengaging the clutch. When the clutch pedal is pressed, hydraulic fluid is forced into the slave cylinder, which then moves the clutch release fork, allowing the driver to shift gears smoothly. It works in tandem with the clutch master cylinder to transfer force from the pedal to the clutch assembly.

Clutch Slave Cylinder Failure Symptoms
  • Difficulty Shifting Gears: If the slave cylinder fails, it may not fully disengage the clutch, making it difficult to shift gears smoothly, especially into first or reverse
  • Soft or Spongy Clutch Pedal: A common symptom is a spongy or soft feel when pressing the clutch pedal, as the slave cylinder fails to build adequate hydraulic pressure
  • Clutch Pedal Stuck to the Floor: In severe cases, the clutch pedal may stick to the floor or be slow to return, preventing proper clutch engagement and making it hard to drive.

About Sachs

ZF Sachs AG, also known as Fichtel & Sachs was founded in Schweinfurt in 1895 and was a well-known German family business. At its last point as an independent company, the company name was Fichtel & Sachs AG. In 1997, the automotive supplier was taken over by Mannesmann and renamed Mannesmann Sachs AG. As of 2001, Sachs belonged to ZF Friedrichshafen as a subsidiary company ZF Sachs AG. In 2011, ZF Sachs, like other Group subsidiaries, was legally merged with ZF Friedrichshafen AG and the independent business units integrated into the ZF divisions. Sachs has since become a brand of ZF Friedrichshafen AG.

Sachs is a trusted brand of the ZF family, which includes Lemforder, TRW, Boge, Stabilus, ZF parts and Sachs Performance. All divisions are well respected within their automotive specialty as they are all OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to car brands like Audi, Porsche, BMW, Volvo and more. Sachs specializes in shock absorbers, struts and clutches, with FCP Euro stocking many solutions based on your needs, be it an OE replacement or a higher performance clutch, shock or strut. All Sachs parts are built to meet or exceed the OEM specifications, this provides confidence and value when choosing Sachs over a Genuine part.

Leaking out the box
Installed and as soon as pressure was applied to bleed the clutch pedal was leaking right out of the port for the fluid line

Perfect replacement
New slave works awesome. If you experience a sticky, slow returning clutch pedal and are high mileage it's probably this. Just be careful with the bleeder screw, it's fragile.

Excellent!
I was experiencing my clutch pedal being stuck to the floor. These can often be the issue in higher-mileage B8 Audi's. I replaced it and the clutch operation feels so much better now. In fact, I actually stalled it pulling it out of my garage because there was such a difference (lol). Great product, much cheaper than the dealership offers. Takes an hour or so with two people to change and some ramps.
