Take out and clean any objects from the trunk to open it better. You can also replace the battery on the remote to see if this is the culprit. Take the key out of the remote and put in a flathead screwdriver below the battery cover to pop it off. Remove your old BMW’s battery and put in a new battery. The battery model number is located on the surface of it. Put the new battery in the remote and snap the cover back on. If your lock mechanism has become faulty, you may need to take your BMW to an authorized BMW mechanic.
