About Volvo S90
In some markets, for the 1997 and 1998 model years there were Volvo sold cars that sported a name badge reading S90. This is what Volvo decided to rename the 4 door sedan model of their 960 that had been in production since 1990 as a 1991 model year. The wagons received a similar name change and were called the V90. Volvo did this to follow suit and match the letter and numbers naming method that was now being used for other models rather than their previous three numbers naming which had been in use since the 1960s. Still just as dependable and reliable, the S90 was mechanically and visually identical to the 960; the Volvo S90 parts all remained the same as the ones on the 960. This was to be the last rear wheel drive car made by Volvo in favor of the newer front wheel drive models that were emerging.
Volvo revived the S90 and V90 name in 2018, with the all new SPA chassis. Bringing back the chiseled lines of the first generation models but adding futuristic styling queues, Volvo re-invigorates the first generation S90 and V90 old school practicality with a new emphasis on safety and performance.
