I replaced this while I was replacing the blower motor, so the original was not defective but since I was in there anyway¯\_(ツ)_/¯. It's been 18 months with no issues.

According to several sources, the blower stays on high speed when the resistor goes bad, but in my case it was very difficult to isolate any one symptom. It would stay on high, not run at all or work perfectly fine, depending on....? I could never find a common cause. I tried replacing the Climate Control console but that wasn't it. I finally bit the bullet and decided to replace both the resistor AND the fan, since a bad fan can apparently affect the resistor. It was tedious but not particularly complicated--although it might be hard if you have very large hands--and now everything works great, and circulates air better, too.

I was replacing the blower motor and decided to replace the resistor as recommended since it was dying a slow death. I decided to replace the resistor along with the blower motor as recommended. I was not having any issues with my old resistor, so this was a proactive replacement. Operation seems to be flawless thus far!

I was tired of pulling the fuse to stop the blower motor after the ignition was off. I wasn't sure whether I was up to the task of changing it but youtube showed me the way and I took my time. The part fit perfectly. Everything went back together and now I have heat again, and the fan turns off with the ignition. Great part at a reasonable price!

Replaced the blower and resistor from my 2012 XC90. This is exactly the same as the part originally used by Volvo and is made in Germany just like the original. The only difference is a sticker on this unit that says "Premium Line" or so. Been working for only 3 days, but spent a full 3 days driving with no issues - so can't fault it.

Part is a bit difficult to reach/change out, but is possible for the DIY person. Just leave yourself plenty of time and patience. Took a few hours to replace in an 07 XC90. Would recommend the part to save money rather then have the dealership perform replacement.

OEM part. Perfect fit. A bit labor intensive, but way cheaper than paying up +$800 for labor alone. Took a bit of wrestling the blower after assembly, but again, saved me a lot of $$$$$.

Perfect fit and works great. Also replaced blower motor as a part of the repair. All information indicates to replace both when repairing.
