Defective out of the box...
This water pump replaced an identical one that only lasted 10,000 miles before leaking from the weep hole, which was a short life anyway. This one, however, started leaking from the first start. Do not buy! And FCP, please stop selling this pump. These do-overs are costing us time and money!

Poor quality china quality.
Replacement my original water pump at 130k on 2001 E 39 so I decided to install the hepu water pump, seems a great price for a German made part.
Long story short since the day one I received this part I was suspicious about the quality 8k later I started to hear grinding noise and started to leak the pump failed shame shame on this poor quality built made in China and not In Germany this is against the law to put false stamps made in Germany.

Two Hepu's Failed Back-to-Back
I have been working on BMW's, Mecedes, Audi and VW for the past thirty years and have never experienced back-to-back defects with any part. I replaced the original BMW factory part @ 115,000 miles as a precaution with a HEPU. Thinking Made in Germany would be better than the rest. About 40 miles post repair, noticed misting of coolant stains on the air box side, power steering tank hose and oil filter housing. Wiped down and saw the same thing, again an again. After 500 miles it got worse. I replaced with another Hepu and the exact same symptoms. I called FCP and their rep experienced the same issue and stated to keep running it. Hepu mentions a break in period. Things got worse and at 2000 miles, coolant was flowing out the weep hole. I was beyond the 90 defect period and had to use the lifetime program. I installed a Saleri, which is the current OE pump. So far no leaks.........Hepu's are hit and miss. Rob Siegel wrote an article about defective BMW M54 Hepu's. In my opinion, there is a bad production batch out there. I happen to have two in a row. If you have a Hepu installed, check for coolant mist stains.

Should last another 265,000 miles
Replaced my original pump on my 1999 528i with 265,000 miles not because it was bad but because I was in there changing the thermostat. And it is the exact same style with a metal fan and made in Germany.

Waterpump failed as one would expect with an E36, this replacement fit perfectly and features a metal impeller instead of the stock plastic garbage.

Seems like a good quality part. I got 2 day shipping and the parts arrived on time.

2 years and 9 months later the bearing failed
The water pump was working great until I heard a noise, at first, I thought it was a belt squealing. My wife was coming back home heard a noise and pulled over, the water pump bearing shaft had a horrible side-to-side play in it allowing all the coolant to leak out, it also ruined the cooling fan. When the pump bearing failed and allowed the side-to-side play each one of the fan blades hit something and broke pieces off of them, looks like I have pieces of aluminum in the coolant system as well where the impeller hit the engine. Ordering a new pump, hopefully, it's just a fluke.

I bought and installed this back in 2019 as preventative maintenance – it's been 3 years and is still working flawlessly.

Great water pump. It’s been so hot this past summer and my 525i hasn’t gotten no where near hot since I installed this part. Awesome part
