Perfect Kit replace old Gasket Cover Seals
This kit includes everything you need to restore compression and fix leaks along the edges of the valve cover on the E46 M54 engine. Just keep in mind that the valve cover may have to be replaced if it is cracked or broken. Do a close up inspection with a magnifying glass or other inspection tools.

Kit was really complete for the job; however, I don't know if this is how it's surpossed to be, but the valve cover was a little loose. It is probably just me but flipping it over would cause it to fall out and have to start over. Videos I have watched doesn't seem to have this issue, but overall worked well.

Fits like a glove! Solved a slight leak in the back of the gasket that was causing oil to burn on the heatshield and smoke. I don't think it had been ever changed in the the 120k history of my car and the rubber had essentially turned into plastice they were so brittle. Make sure you get some RTV for those corners!

Comes with everything you need except for the RTV sealant. Everything fit, and I am now leak free.

Replacing the valve cover gasket is a very doable job for an average do-it-yourselfer with a basic set of metric tools. Symptoms that the valve cover has failed are oil wetness on the right (passenger) side of the engine and a "popcorn smell" as described by my daughter which is the oil hitting the exhaust manifold and burning. Often the unseen interior spark plug well seals become brittle and fail (part of the valve cover gasket set) allowing oil to puddle on top of the spark plugs and soak the associated coil packs which can lead to shorts and failure. So if you're into the "while I'm at it" maintenance model, I suggest replacing the spark plugs and coil packs at the same time. Everything is "plug-and-play".
The FCP kit is very complete including all of the smaller valve cover nut seals and even the associated washers. Quality of the components is very good.
Expect about three hours for the repair at a relaxed pace depending on how bad the leak(s) were and how much clean up you'll have to conduct before reassembly.
