It was stuck open after install.
Original thermostat was ordered as part of the cooling refresh on 04 325xi wagon. After the install, the car immediately showed symptoms of the stuck open thermostat. After 2-3 weeks of driving the car around the town, the car threw a code P0128 (Coolant Thermostat - Coolant Temp Below Thermostat Regulating Temp) which confirmed my diagnosis. I ordered the replacement thermostat from FCP (same one, Mahle Behr, to give it another try) and returned the original one. The replacement one seems to be working correctly now, but time will tell... Thankfully, FCP has lifetime replacement program.

It was time to get a new thermostat for my car as it was kicking up a code, so I bought this. The housing that was on the car was metal, but this one fit fine and I haven't had any problems.

My car now shows a coolant temperature of about 93 degrees Celsius.

Excellent! I had an issue previously where the old thermostat would sometimes be stuck closed and I’d have to pull over in city traffic when I watch the thermometer rise to the red. This fixed that issue. I have no worries about the temperature getting high anymore.

Best you can buy unless you find an aluminum thermostat housing. But for the price, it is well worth it - and very easy to install.
