Hi, i have a 2013 x5(E70) with 95k miles with no trans issue. Do you think this amount of mileage is too high and risky for a drain and fill?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
I personally think you'll be fine doing a drain and fill at that mileage, I would only advise against using a machine to flush out the system. There should be no issue with performing the drain and fill.
Question Posted by Robert
I have a 2011 BMW X5 E70 with the 8HP45 transmission with only 37k miles. I want to perform this service every 40k miles or sooner to keep my trans healthy. Is it necessary to also change the mechatronics sleeve and adapter plug? Also is it safe to do a transmission adaption reset after performing a filter/fluid change? Appreciate your time, and help. Thanks God Bless!!
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
You do not need to service the mechatronic sleeves or plugs and you should not reset adaptations. Adaptation resets are only performed when the transmission is rebuilt or major components have been replaced. This does not apply to a basic drain and fill service.

2016 x3 28D, 59K miles I did the full kit change, following the video through and having read the Q&A... What gives me pause is that nearly 4 liters came out and it will only take a little less than 3.5 liters back in. I ran through all of the gears R/1-8 multiple times, brought the transmission up to temp and even drove around the block at both slow and higher RPM shifts. I also ran the engine at 2000+ RPM for a while. The fluid is definitely even with the fill and the car was level. Where to go from here? Thanks!
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
The .5 liter difference is not substantial enough to be concerned with. As long as the fluid level is at the edge of the fill plug at the prescribed fluid level check you're fine.

Does the kit come with the magnets on the pan or do you have to swap magnets from the old pan to the new pan?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
The magnets are part of the pan/filter assembly. There is no need to swap or install anything additional to what you are receiving in the kit.
Question Posted by Patrick
with the old ZF6 transmission I had to replace solenoids . Do I need to replace solenoids for the ZF8 too or not?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
No. The 8HP is an entirely different transmission than the 6HP. Solenoid/Mechatrponic issues are nowhere near as common.
Question Posted by Dan
I contacted ZF and they sent me a PDF diagram giving instructions for checking the fluid level. Their flow chart shows that on the 8HP transmission you are supposed to maintain 2,000 rpm for 30 seconds to fill the torque converter in addition to running the car through park, reverse, D1, and D2 for 10 seconds each. Why does your video not show the step to fill the torque converter? They also indicate you before filling torque converter and running through gears that you should initially overfill your first fill by .5L and drive the car until the transmission temperature reaches 75 Celsius to open the thermal bypass valve on the transmission cooler. Why is this not indicated either? Concerned about what is the proper protocol as I don’t want to damage my transmission. Thanks!
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
When performing a drain and fill service on an 8HP transmissions on a BMW we reference the information BMW provides specifically. First, it's impossible to overfill the transmission by .5 liters when filling the transmission through the fill hole of the transmission. The initial fill will begin to pour out once you hit the fill plug level. You can't force additional fluid inside the transmission. The thermostat opening for the trans cooler is not relevant to this equation. When you drain and remove the pan you're not affecting fluid in the torque converter and you're not affecting fluid in the oil cooler lines. When performing a drain and fill service you are primarily removing and replacing fluid inside the oil sump and housing of the transmission. After the initial fill shifting through the gears will pressurize the valve body and ensure any air in the system is pushed out. The final fill is supposed to be done between 40 °C to 50 °C which is what determines the final transmission fill level accounting for expansion of the oil. At no point during this procedure is it necessary to rev the engine.

When draine then refill the trans. fluid (2015 BMW 328i), recommended refill temp. should be 40-50 gedree centigrade, how to measure it ,I don’t have any to measure, what should do ? Thanks much..
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
The final fill should be at 40-50 C which at that point fluid pours out of the fill hole. Once that occurs the transmission is full. Measuring the fluid drained is more of a reference and isn't necessary but this gives you a rough reference for how much fluid will be going back in when you go to refill it. To measure the fluid that came out you can pour the fluid into any measuring container such as a plastic pitcher.

Just changed my 2015 BMW 328i trans. fluid, with all new pan & filter kit, new fluid I put in , took only 4.5 liters of new fluid (by the way I didn’t the scanner to find out when temperature is at 40-50 degree centigrade, as bmw recommend)
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
That is a potential fill capacity depending on how much fluid drained from the transmission. When it doubt you can measure the amount of fluid that was drained before refilling. That also gives you a good idea how much you need to refill/how much more you can drain.
Question Posted by Carlos
Hello, while I understand that this kit does is only for the pan will the clean fluid eventually mix with the fluid in the torque converter to "refresh" it?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
The new fluid will mix with the old fluid. You do not want to flush these transmissions and completely refill them with fresh fluid. As it stands you're replacing upwards of 70% of the total fill in the system with this kit.
Question Posted by Westin
Will this kit still be effective and helpful at 75000 miles or will this have bad side effects? I know this may sound like a dumb question but so many people are afraid of having their transmission serviced at around that many miles and above.
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
This kit will perform a drain and fill service only and does not touch fluid in the torque converter or other sensitive areas where disruption can cause transmission issues. As long as the transmission shift smoothly in its current state you will be fine. Many people attempt to change fluid after a problem has already started which is too late.
