Question Posted by Edgar
11’ 535i RWD. My 8HP45 currently has Pentosin Atf8, will mixing this ZF lifeguard be a negative ? Second, I’m also doing valve body seals and solenoids along with mechatronic sleeve. Should I also reset adaptations ?. Thanks in advance.
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Lifeguard is what you get from the factory so mixing should be no issue. If you intend to replace the mechatronics unit then you would need to program it to the vehicle and reset adaptations.

Please refer to our blog articles about this automatic transmission service kit. https://blog.fcpeuro.com/bmw-lifetime-transmission-fluid-isnt-lifetime & https://blog.fcpeuro.com/how-to-change-the-oil-in-a-zf-8-speed-transmission.
Question Posted by a customer
What tool do I need to measure the fluid temperature? And why are dealerships chasing away this kind of service? Especially for customers who are trying to do preventive maintenance. I understand the need to sell a condition based service, but some owners are more knowledgeable and want actual service.

2012 E70 X5 have 120,000 miles bought car with 118,000 not sure if transmission filter was change. Do you think it’s wise to do the drain and replace the filter/pan/fluid?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Yes absolutely. While most manufacturers say that the transmission fluid is "lifetime", ZF recommends 50k service intervals for your vehicle's transmission. While this article is not a direct DIY for your vehicle, it will give you information regarding transmission service intervals and why transmission fluid is compromised after 50k miles. https://blog.fcpeuro.com/how-to-change-the-oil-in-a-zf-8-speed-transmission

2011 X3 28i with 108K miles. Just got the car and I don't know if the transmission has ever been serviced. Worth doing a fluid and filter change or is it too late at this point?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Yes, it is always good to drain all fluids and replace them with fresh fluids when purchasing a new, used vehicle.
