FCP Euro truly are the best!! They make it possible for folks like me to own a BMW and not have to spend a fortune every time to get it fixed. I made the mistake of ordering parts one time from someone else, was knee deep in the job and was a disaster when found that they had sent me wrong parts - never again!
I noticed a leak late on Tuesday, ordered and parts showed up Thursday! The leak was only apparent when the engine was hot and pressure in system builds - there was little to no leak at ambient temperature. I stuffed a few towels in around the reservoir/tank and was wet after next long drive so knew was the source.
It was a perfect fit. Here are my cliff notes on how to do it for what it is worth (there are really good videos out there better than this - but don't be afraid to tackle this job - just few simple tools and some patience).
(1) Remove the Overflow line. Use pick - should hear click. Wiggle Free.
(2) Remove the steering fluid reservoir. Lift Up. Not sure if this is necessary but gives extra room. (2 x 10mm)
(3) Remove 2 x 10 nuts from Expansion Tank
**Lean the tank forward and come at it from the back side.
(5) Remove the sensor itself: Feel wiring to the sensor. TRICK - sensor on bottom twists and out (twist lock.). Do a trial run with the new tank to get better understanding. Feel for the sensor. It is a dry sensor - separate containment portion of the tank. {One could also try and remove the connector but I feel this (1) would be more difficult and (2) chances are will get electronics wet at step 6.}
(6) Before removing the hose - have a pan underneath the car as there will be quite a bit of coolant spilled.
Remove the bottom hose. This is the hardest part. Feel around for the hose clip and leverage it out with a pick. Use a mirror if you have to.
Once it is out - wiggle tank up. Coolant now flows out but you have pan in place to catch (hopefully - lol).
(7) Clean area with some water.
(8) Press down on tab (press Tab) - unplug old sensor and install new sensor. (make sure to keep connection/pins dry)
(9) Put new tank position and move forward.
(10) Connect hose - try and rotate in and should hear click. I did not hear click first time so back to step (6) - oof.
(11) Slide sensor in and twist lock.
(12) There are a few cables in this area and other hoses. Make sure there is no tension and put tank in position.
(13) Place the power steering reservoir back in place and tighten (2 x 10mm).
(14) Tighten down the steering expansion tank reservoir.
(15) Put the overflow hose back in place - should hear the click.
(16) Add coolant up to the reservoir level.
(17) Electronic Bleed - Power on/engine not running - heat at lowest blower output but highest heat setting. Press down the accelerator for 10 seconds. U should hear pump come on. I did this for 2-3 times but be careful as will lower battery. Add coolant as necessary. I then started up car and let it run when majority of air was out of system.
Prob took 2 hrs.
Good quality so far,

Excellent quality, but...
FCP Euro packed this well, but the Mahle-Behr box had no packing and had significantly more volume than necessary, which allowed the tank (with attached sensor) to bang around. This cracked the sensor at the 90 deg joint. Good thing the sensor is tough and simple...the 2 heavy rigid conductors were not compromised. I applied plastic epoxy and tested it (it's a normally open circuit closed by a magnet's proximity). The tank itself otherwise seems just as good as the original BMW part.

Works as advertised on my 2009 BMW X5. No more coolant leak.

it is plug and play, the sensor connection is on the bottom of the tank , be mindful when removing from your car . so far, it works great

I originally purchased a replacement from one of the big box auto parts stores and had leaks. Purchased from fcp for the warranty and no leaks at all, perfect replacement for the original. I did get a defective coolant level sensor but Fcp was quick to get a replacement shipped and everything is perfect!
