My plastic one was about to fail. This was an easy replacement and much better than the stock plastic piece.

Replaced my old plastic flange with this is aluminum one. So much stronger & reliable

I accidentally stumbled upon this part as I needed a new hose as I discovered the oem hose that was on the 135i N55 while doing the oil filter housing gasket, the plastic flange to the engine block was coming off in pieces. I ordered the hose itself (REIN) but also ordered this to not have to worry about the plastic flange breaking off and happening again. For $18, this is cheap insurance to keep your cooling system from ingesting bits of plastic or having a major coolant leak. Easiest way to not damage the hose itself while cutting the metal band off to remove the stock flange is to cut diagonally with a dremel and cutting tool on low speed. This will prevent burning or cutting of the hose itself. I’m sure there’s other ways, possibly with wire cutting snips.

Decided to upgrade with this aluminum part while doing my thermostat and water pump so the old plastic one won't deteriorate down the road and becoming a major problem later.

The original plastic flange was crumbling apart, glad I noticed before any damage happened, this install was pretty straight forward if you have the tools!
