Be very careful with trunk lid lifts. Those from Autozone, Pep boys, and O'Reilly are generic and do not fit. These parts do.
To remove the old lifts, start in the trunk. Block the trunk open with a broom. Remove the clips from the trunk end of the lifts using a small flathead screwdriver.
Move to the back seat. Fold down the rear seats. Remove the side bolsters by pulling the top first. these are held in by clips and require a firm tug. (You can't break the clips because they are made of spring steel.) Feel for the ends of trunk lifts below the parcel shelf. The trunk ends are held in place with a compression hook. The OEM hooks are plastic and after years of cooking in the trunk will be very brittle and inelastic. To remove them, it will take substantial force. In my case, I used a short flathead screwdriver and a flat pry bar. Keep any pointy ends away facing downward to avoid facial injury!
The lift hooks into a horizontal bar.mApply upward force to hook closer to the rear of the car. If you, use the notch on the lift, the force required will bend the old lift. Do not apply force on the hook on the front side of the car, this will break it and the pry bar may hurt you!
The new lifts will hook in easily.
