This is a silly design on Volvo's part. The rubber in this gasket becomes brittle quite quickly. Better is to replace it with a longer-lasting one, such as the one made from viton available from IPD (part no. 115315).

You will need this if there is oil vapor blowing out around the filler cap. Did the trick and for under a buck.

Don't forget this your next oil change!
If you take your car to get the oil changed at Jiffy Lube, chances are this gasket is hard as a brick. Even if you do the oil yourself, you might not be aware of this. If your seeing oil on the top of your engine, check this first before you go to PCV or anything more severe. Easy to install, no tools required. Take Oil Cap off, turn over, see the ring, pull off the old, hard as a brick, nasty one. Put new, soft flexible one on. You'll notice you now get a nice good seal when you close the oil cap. BAM! Cheap and effective. Place one in your next order

my oil filler cap was leaking oil fumes and some oil in my 97 960. very economical fix and no more oil burning under hood.

This fixed a low oil pressure issue and cleaned up the engine bay in my 1994 850.
