Changing out the HPFP on my N14 was a bit of a guess, but the symptoms looked right. I only expected the new pump to solve my sudden hard start/limp home problem, but there are unexpected benefits too. The engine is noticeably quieter - what I thought was valve noise seems to have been coming from the old pump. Power delivery, especially coming off idle at a stop, is significantly improved. The engine runs silky smooth and doesn't stumble like before. I suspect the old pump had been borderline for a while but the ECU was compensating as best it could. Aside from the timing chain, this has been the best major repair that I have applied to this car. Getting the fuel feed line disconnected was a chore, as predicted, but the new pump fit perfectly and fired right up. Well worth the cost of the part!
