Good Day: Is the Pierburg water pump have plastic or metal impellar blades? Apparently there is an issue with the original BMW plastic blades breaking after excessive wear...
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
The impeller is composite. Impeller failure has never been an issue for this style of water pump. Composite impeller failure is a problem for older mechanically drive water pumps from the late 90's/early 2000's which is also a non issue now.

Question Posted by MICHAEL
If refreshing cooling hoses at the same time, how much more coolant do I need to purchase as well? Total cooling capacity is 2 gallons according to some forums.
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
You're going to drain the same amount of coolant whether just replacing the water pump/thermostat as you would in addition to replacing additional coolant hoses. Total system capacity, including heater core for the vehicles listed in the fitment guide, is 8.4 liters (~2.2 gallons). The refill will be less than this amount as there is always leftover coolant in the engine block, heater core, etc. The antifreeze provided (1 gallon) is sold concentrated and needs to be diluted with water. The recommended ratio is 50/50 meaning you will have 7.57 liters of coolant/antifreeze (~2 gallons) which is more than enough for refilling the cooling system.
Question Posted by Ramiro
Does it come with gaskets?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Not sure which gaskets you're referring to. The water pump and thermostat are external to the engine. The hoses are either clamped in place or secured with quick disconnects. Seals for the hoses that use quick disconnects are not available separately from the hoses themselves.

I have a 2011 bmw 328I Xdrive just yesterday the heat stopped working only blows cold and the engine fan is on high? Is it the water pump that failed instantly? Why is fan on high and no heat?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
There are specific fault codes (2E81, 2E82, 2E83) )for water pump failures on these cars since the water pump is controlled by the DME. Generally, the engine cooling fan stuck on high is an indicator of water pump failure because the coolant is either circulating slowly or not at all. Usually when these pumps fail output of the pump (demand vs actual) is less than required and therefore coolant flow through the cooling system is not optimal. In regards to no heat or lack of heat inside the cabin is due to lack of flow of coolant to the heater core due to little to not output of the water pump.
Question Posted by a customer

Question Posted by a customer
Seems like this water pump I just installed doesn’t turn on with BMW 2006 325i 10-second holding down Gas pedal. I made sure the ignition was off, but pump is not bleeding the system. Is this common?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Accessory mode (position 2) needs to be on, the self bleed test will not work if the vehicle is completely off. If the vehicle is in accessory mode the self bleed test will not activate if battery voltage is low (<12V). It is also worth noting that the test will turn off at any point when battery voltage is too low. That is why it's usually required for the vehicle to be hooked up to a power supply when performing this procedure.
