Question Posted by Eric
I have a N51 SULEV engine. Did my car originally come with a plastic valve cover as mentioned in the video? or was it originally made of some other material? For this particular item - the valve cover that you are selling on your site what is it made of?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
N51 SULEV engines only came equipped with this updated plastic valve cover with an integrated PCV valve.

Dealer said my 2011 328i xdrive (N52N) has a leaking valve cover gasket. They are recommending replacing both the gasket and valve cover due to age/mileage and proneness to cracking. Looking to replace the gasket, but wondering if it is common to replace the valve cover due to age/mileage?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Dealers/shops generally replace the valve covers on 3-series and 1-series models because of how tight the engine bay is particularly in the back right corner where the DME box is located. It also has an integrated crankcase ventilation valve so between the tight fit which can cause the original cover to break coming out and the propensity for the crankcase ventilation valve to fail over time it does make sense to replace the valve cover at the same time when dealing with a valve cover gasket leak.
Question Posted by Zach
Would this be in any way compatible with the 06' N52 for use of the built-in PCV valve?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Hard to day. It should physically fit the cylinder head but other parts would require updating including the CCV line to the intake manifold.

Just replaced bmw 328i valve cover and it won’t start. I have code P1030 VVT Actuator Monitoring Position control, control deviation Bank 1. What does that mean ?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
P1030 is a generic OBD2 fault code so unfortunately all it does it point to a certain condition on the Valvetronic motor system and does not provide specific needed data. A P1030 code could be caused by a faulty valvetronic motor, valvetronic eccentric motor harness is open or shorted, or Valvetronic eccentric motor circuit poor electrical connection. A full diagnosis of the system would need to be performed to determine the actual problem but based on the fault code it's for certain and issue on the Valvetronic control side of things.

2010 BMW 328i makes a loud whistling sound from the engine now a lot of people on forums and youtube videos have said that’s either the valve cover gasket or the PCV valve that’s built into the valve cover will replacing valve cover stop the whistling
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
If the PCV valve is defective it can cause a whistling sound. Usually this is due to a torn diaphragm. It would not be a bad valve cover gasket that causes this noise. However, there is no way for sure for us to say for sure on our end that the PCV valve is in fact your issue. Would recommend a thorough inspection and diagnosis before moving forward with a part replacement.

Hello FCP, What is the part number for the Valve cover Bolt itself. where you bolt it on going through the gasket holes itself when installing?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
All but a handful of bolts are encapsulated. Would need more information as to which bolts are specifically needed. Please contact service@fcpeuro.com with a picture of your valve cover with information pertaining to the bolts that are needed.
Question Posted by a customer
It would be nice if in the online description you include the torque of the bolts.... actually for all parts; that will help our community of FCP clients.
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
The torque value is listed on the valve cover itself which reads 8.6Nm +/- .6Nm

(Continued) ...needed for this replacement?: “DOES NOT come with the following. No spark plug tubes were included Two aluminum torx bolts on the valve cover underneath the secondary air wasn't included Center hole 10mm bolt wasn't included either.“
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
We don't see a previous post mOnly the valve cover gasket and the outside perimeter bolts are included. Secondary air is only going to be relevant for the N51 variant. The N52 has a block off plate and will not require removal to service the valve cover. The secondary air is also secured with locking nuts, not bolts as the cylinder head is studded.
