not quite perfect E60 expansion tank
In general, this expansion tank appears to look fine. I had to use my existing fill cap and it sealed well. For some reason it requires less effort to close, but that didn't keep it from sealing well. This expansion tank did not come with a fill cap, but did come with the low coolant sensor installed. There is an extra port that is not used. You will need to move the extra port cap from your current expansion tank to the new tank. My old tank was not a BMW tank either. It developed a leak around the horizontal seam after about 3 years of use. I ordered this tank since the price is competitive and comes with a lifetime warranty. My only problem with this tank is that when filling it with coolant the float gets stuck and does not come back out of the fill hole. I have to reach in and pull it towards the opening for it to come back out the hole. Then I can see the level and if low, add more coolant. If the float gets stuck which it often does, I have to pull it back into the hole to get a reading again. I did not have this problem with the last two expansion tanks in this car, nor any of the expansion tanks in any of my many other BMW’s.

First one lasted 3 years
The first replacement Behr expansion tank lasted three years before needing to be replaced. The coolant sensor was not working and the fill indicator rod disintegrated. The tank was not leaking, but the car reported the coolant was low and I could not verify the actual level. Hopefully the replacement will last longer.

Behr expansion tank review
Overall the Behr expansion tank looked and felt like original. But upon installation, it started leaking from the lower hose. I had to put back the original expansion tank. Now i have to wait on OEM expansion tank.

Fitment and what’s included
Fits e60 with the n54 you will be reusing your reservoir cap so probably best to buy a new cap separate or just replace o rings on caps; and you will reuse the port block off for the e60 u just reuse the old one and reuse old clips for the hoses so dont lose then and it does come with new level sensor

FCP NEVER FAILS
Purchased this expansion tank because my old one was leaking bad and i got it in a fairly matter time, i replaced it with having no problems i suggest replacing all your coolant hoses as well with this expansion tank for preventative maintenance.

Review - BMW Coolant Expansion Tank #17137542986
2005 BMW 530i E60 - my coolant system had several leaks it turns out, in addition to the expansion tank. Took car to local German Car Service Center who strongly objected to a customer buying his/her own parts! Almost refused to fix all the other leaks! Warned me never again buy my on parts and expect them to install them. So I suggest you avoid Martin's German Car Service in Roanoke VA unless you allow them to rip you off with their very high parts and labor cost. So after a $1500 bill to fix coolant leaks, the car still leaks a small amount of coolant. Thanks Martin's.
