1.4 bar expansion tank cap

This is quite possibly one of the most overlooked components of the cooling system on BMW's. The expansion tank cap serves a couple of important functions. Firstly, the cap keeps/retians necessary pressure on the coolant to increase the systems efficiency. Secondly, the cap prevents the coolant from boiling or expanding too much by keeping pressure on the coolant and cooling system. This cap is designed to withstand 1.4 bar (20PSI) of pressure and eventually wears out over time.

We strongly encourage you to replace this cap anytime a cooling system service is completed.

Note: This cap is designed to release if there is too much system pressure. If the cap has leaked coolant, bleed the system and replace the cap.

Perfect Cap For Lowering Overall Coolant System Pressure (E46)

I purchased this Expansion Tank Cap because it is rated at 1.4 Bar instead of the standard 2.0 Bar that you will find on most E46 Expansion Tanks. I am weary of having my coolant system run at such a high pressure with so many of the coolant system components being plastic. This 1.4 Bar Cap is a common upgrade to the E46 Coolant Systems to help keep the coolant system pressure down and allowing you a little more breathing room by allowing the system to vent excess pressure through the cap instead of raising the pressure up to 2.0 Bar or more.

The o-ring and the rubber inside the cap looks good. However the plastic used on the cap feels cheap and brittle. The plastic doesn't feel like the same quality as the OEM. But hey, it's just a cap and I just need it to seal and maintain pressure. I hope the plastic holds up better than my impression.

Some of the reviewers above may have been rewarded for their positive & negative reviews. We don't hold anything back.
