Question Posted by Kate
Is the epoxy near the wire harness locking tab ivory or black color? The original stock one has an ivory color epoxy near the top. Does the current Delphi OE replacement look identical to the current genuine BMW part? Will order soon. Thank You!

These coils are potted with black epoxy while the Genuine version of this coil is potted with white epoxy. The Genuine BMW and Delphi branded coils are manufactured in different production facilities. There are forum threads that discuss this difference, based on what we see in terms of warranties/failures there doesn't seem to be a strong correlation as to which is more reliable than the other. We also see returns on claimed defective units that work fine upon installation into vehicle we have access to on site.

Is the country of manufacturer/origin China (as shown in the description for this part)? The original BMW/Delphi ignition coil set was made in Germany. My mom's BMW had several misfires, and she wants robust and long lasting parts. So, OE Delphi (China) vs OE Bosch (Slovenia)? Thanks!

Country of origin in China. Regardless of country of origin the Delpi ignition coil has generally shown itself as the better performing option long term over the Bosch ignition coils.

Question Posted by a customer
Could you please tell me why you cannot mix the Delphi ignition coil with the Bosh type? What difference would this do? Thanks
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
It is due to the differing internal resistance in each coil. They vary slightly and this can cause ignition performance problems.

Real OEM has this part number for 05 325i. But your description says it does not fit. Which is right?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
BM<W has recently switch ignition coil applications around on multiple models and we have not updated the website to reflect this change. The truth is any pencil style ignition coil will fit your application. Per BMW this Delphi coil is the most suitable. However, the Bosch 00044 coil was originally designed for the M54 engine and that's the coil we suggest for the application as it was at one point the coil required.
Question Posted by Yang
This used to be the standard part only for N54 engines right? Is it now approved for N52 engines and why did BMW switch from Bosch?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
You can still use it for the N54 engine. BMW recently switch around the applications for ignition coils and introduced a new version for other vehicles. I'm not sure why it happened but there's no reason you can't use these older coils on your N54 powered BMW.
