The telescoping tube is more of a problem than help on doing a rear differential service. And you can't remove it, fwiw. Also, you could get away with 1 liter on most E46s, technically, except with most pumps you can't use all the fluid in the bottle. So if you need to use a pump...get 2.

Something to know, if you're performing this service while the diff is outside the car, there's a vent hole at the very top, that if left completely upside down, will leak oil.

No need for a transfer pump with this kit. Used on 01 330ci and now shifts even better. Highly recommend.
