Is the drive belt the same as the serpentine belt? if not what is the difference?

Serpentine belt is the name for a specific type of belt design. The accessory drive (alternator, power steering pump, water pump, and A/C compressor on your BMW is driven by the accessory drive belt which just happens to be driven by a serpentine style belt.
