Quality is one of the most notable aspects to the BMW brand. They have kept up their assurance to keep their higher standards a principal in the company ever since their early beginnings. BMW still produces intuitive engineering and sleekly designed vehicles. They have an astonishing product line, which has pushed them into becoming one of the most sought after auto brands out today, and even with their transmission fluid parts and components. The transmission fluid in your BMW is the backbone to what keeps your vehicle properly running. If your BMW has an automatic transmission, the transmission fluid needs to be changed about every 100,000 miles. This means you do not have to replace the fluid regularly. However, replacing the fluid means more than just replacing the fluid itself, as you will also need to clean or replace other parts in your BMW’s transmission. You should drive your BMW for at least 10 miles to warm the transmission up to operating temperature and park it on a level surface with the parking brake up. The next step is to loosen the drain plug for the transmission fluid pan about a half rotation with the wrench. Put a draining container below the pan and take out the plug, Measure the amount of fluid that drains from the pan and then replace the plug with a new plug gasket. If you have questions about your BMW’s transmission fluid products, the FCP Euro team is here for any support you may need.
You can now detach the transmission fluid pan by taking it off of its mounting fasteners. Get rid of the gasket and clean the mating surfaces and the inside of the pan. Using some brake cleaner should do the trick. Detach the transmission fluid filter and disconnect its mounting fasteners if equipped. Install a new filter with new seals. Install the fluid pan back on the transmission, using a new gasket. Fill the transmission with the fluid indicated for your model BMW. Your owner’s manual should state the kind you need. Remove the filler plug, which is on the transmission above the pan in order to fill it with the fluid. Fill it to the quantity you measured previously from the drained fluid. Inspect your BMW’s fluid level; the fluid needs to be just seeping over the edge of the hole. Replace the filler plug and start up the engine. Let it run idle for a few minutes and then test the fluid level again, as it will have heated and stretched.
