The 1600-02 is also the first of BMWs “02 series” which is a smaller more affordable version of the traditional 4 door sedan. The 1600-2 was introduced in March of 1966 t the Geneva Auto Show and was introduced to the North American market as a 1966 model year and was available up until 1971 when the name of this two door variant of the larger sedan version became simply, “1602”. The 1600-2 featured the venerable BMW M10 OHC engine with a power output of 85 horsepower at 5700 RPM and 96 lf ft of torque at 3500 RPMs.
