Audi’s enhanced standards are put into all of their vehicles and products, even in their exhaust hardware parts and components. Rust is a vehicle issue no matter where you see it, but when gets onto your Audi’s bolts and nuts in your exhaust system, it can be more of a safety concern than if it was just on the exterior of your vehicle. There are a number ways to get rid of a rusted bolt and it will take some time to do so properly. The first thing to do is raise your Audi up on a jack and support it on its jack stands. Before getting under it is important to ensure it is firmly set on the stands. Add some penetrating oil on the rusted nut and bolt. You need the oil to soak the spot where the bolt and nut link together on your exhaust. This is what is holding the parts together. FCP Euro has great selection Audi exhaust hardware parts and components, as well as all of Audi’s general components.

Now try to loosen the nut from the bolt with a 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. If it does not pry off easily, try the 3/8-inch breaker bar to give a bit more leverage. It is a good idea to put a fire extinguisher below your Audi to prepare for the next step, as well as wearing welding gloves. Heat the bolt with a gas torch until it is red. The oil may burn a little, but should not result in a fire. Try again to take off the nut or bolt with a3/8-inch ratchet and breaker bar. This should definitely loosen it up, but if it does not, go to the last step. Put on an angle grinder to the air compressor with an air hose and cut through the nut and bolt. This is a last resort, but it will take off the hardware, for sure. You just have to replace it with new hardware.
