The History of Volvo

Volvo was founded in 1927 as a subsidiary of the ball-bearing manufacturer SKF. The name Volvo means ‘I Roll’ in Latin in reference to the ball bearings as Volvo was originally supposed to be a premium line of SKF ball bearings however they were never released. The company was founded with a primary focus on safety which remains at the heart of its core today.

Volvo cars have always had the reputation of being solid, safe, and reliable however they always struggled with sales volume compared to other larger European car manufacturers and Asian car manufacturers. They almost merged with Renault and then Saab at one point but remained independent until 1999 when Volvo decided to sell its car division to Ford. Volvo had some great years with Ford early on up to about 2004-2005 where they peaked. While Ford pushed Volvo into becoming more of a luxury car brand, they starved them of R&D funding. Additionally, the prices of the cars increased during hard economic times and Volvo didn't have any great lease deals or financing options. Car sales plummeted and it was then during the recession in 2010 that Ford was forced to sell off Volvo for 1.8 billion to the Chinese-owned Geely. Geely has essentially acted as the "Bank of Geely" dumping billions of dollars into the company and more importantly letting Volvo be Volvo. Today you’re seeing impressive industry-setting trends from the manufacturer giving the other key automakers a run for their money. The future is looking incredibly bright for Volvo considering their hard push to be one of the first in the market to electrification and autonomous driving.

Volvo at FCP Euro

At FCP Euro our roots of selling Volvo replacement parts go back to the brick-and-mortar days in Groton. We chose Volvo because it sold and there was a large Volvo following in the Groton, CT area which forced us to have a large on-hand inventory. We continued supporting the brand because it sold well and customers created the demand. As the years went by we all learned to appreciate Volvo, who they are, what they stand for, and what it means to the company. It's our grassroots. We stuck with it and were fortunate enough to be one of the larger eCommerce players in the Volvo scene early on in the game. Our Volvo online catalog manager, Jason VanGorden has spent the majority of his professional career with Volvo; he's a Volvo owner, and enthusiast, has an extensive technical background and experience, and has achieved a Master technician status both within Volvo and ASE.

FCP Euro's Volvo Online Catatalog

At FCP Euro we offer over 10,0000 Genuine, OE, OEM, High Quality aftermarket, and Performance Volvo parts including Sachs, Lemforder, SKF, Hutchinson, Zimmerman, Brembo, Valeo, Denso, Bosch, Etc. We service all Volvo models sold in the North American market ranging from model years 1960 to current. Our primary focus is from model years 2000-2015 with the majority of our sales being attributed to the Volvo P80 and P2 chassis. We choose these brands because of the quality and we choose the year range primarily based on vehicles in service and vehicles out of warranty. As we continue to see P80 Volvo's phase out, P2 will continue to be our online catalog focus, P3 will continue to grow, and our biggest opportunity right now is to build out the new SPA and CPA platforms. Volvo is showing some real growth within this platform both from customer demand and vehicle vehihicle ownership.

About Volvo Parts and Repair

Anyone who has owned a Volvo for any period of time knows when it comes time for repairs, the Volvo engine can be an expensive to maintain. Just a basic oil and filter change with a tune-up can run as much as $150. If the front brakes need work the price jumps up to $400. How about a radiator replacement? Probably $600 to $700. Irrespective of whether the car is a wagon, sedan, or even the newer SUVs, Volvo repairs can be very pricey if owners don’t pay attention to where the parts come from. Many of the related parts can be had at a licensed Volvo dealer, but customers end up paying through the nose for the same parts that can be had for much less from a reliable aftermarket supplier. Volvos are notoriously known for PCV issues dating back to the red blocks all the way through the present. The weakest points are anything rubber, for example, control arm bushings or upper spring seats. Brake components are naturally wear and tear items and require periodic replacement. FCP Euro stocks many of the same parts that Volvo dealers carry but at prices that are far more affordable for the car owner’s pocketbook. These replacement parts are high quality, either as genuine OEM parts or aftermarket parts. More importantly, FCP Euros staff are ASE-certified technicians, trained to understand your car’s needs and to match up the right parts to the desired repair.

Much of FCP Euro's Volvo car parts inventory is in stock which allows the company to provide customers same-day shipping. That means little wait time and a quick turnaround getting back to a repair and getting your Volvo back on the road. Selecting and finding the right part for your Volvo Repair is easy, even without or a technician's help. FCP Euro provides its customers with an easy-to-use website and an online search parts listing. This includes genuine and OEM Volvo parts as well as aftermarket. Additionally, customers can visually see the price difference between the two and make an educated purchase that best suits their needs and repair budget.

  • For quality Volvo repair parts, FCP Euro is a mainstay resource available to all consumers, both commercial and individual. Dedicated to providing quality service and part supply, FCP Euro can help customers keep their cars in working order and keep their repair costs down to what is necessary. In many cases, the same parts dealers will use in their expensive repairs are the same parts FCP Euro can provide as well. So consumers should at a minimum review FCP Euro's selection to compare pricing if nothing else. It's also good to remember, that many Volvo repair shops and dealers will still perform the involved labor work of a repair even if a customer supplies his own parts after ordering from FCP Euro. As long as the parts provided are the correct units for the repair, most repair shops will install them as a customer desires and only charge for labor. This can result in significant part savings for a customer. FCP has a full catalog specializing in Volvo Suspension, Volvo Brakes, Volvo Exhaust, and Volvo Cooling Systems just to name a few.

Take the time and visit FCP Euro and use the online catalog for your next repair. We believe consumers will be pleasantly surprised and how much can be saved in Volvo repair bills.
