BMW Performance Parts

BMW has always put their attention to detail and refined designs at the center of their philosophy, which has helped them become one of the “German big three” for automakers. They have always been respected for advanced parts and vehicles, especially their performance parts and components. When putting in a new BMW performance steering wheel, you have to make sure the new steering wheel is well matched with the air bag in your existing one. FCP Euro’s specialists can help you with this if you are unsure. When going through this process, you should follow the following directions completely, as the air bag system has will not tolerate static electricity or DC voltage. It can go off without notice and cause harm. The first thing you have to do when replacing the steering wheel is to find the security code for your BMW’s radio. It has to be disabled in this process. Disconnect the battery and let the vehicle sit for at around 10 minutes so the circuits can go to sleep and lose their charge. Now, take out the screws from the back of the steering wheel where they go into the air bag. You will most likely need Torx bits for this. Raise the air bag carefully and remove the two yellow wires with a black stripe attached to the air bag. Take off the nut holding your BMW’s steering wheel. Using a steering wheel puller, you can now remove your steering wheel. Install the new wheel, paying close attention to the raised plastic piece that encases the horn wire. There is a hole in the middle of the wheel for this raised piece. Position the wheel so this piece will slip through the hole in the wheel when you are installing it. Put in the nut on the column and secure it. There will be two more wires for the horn. One is a ground and the other is a hot wire that is set into your BMW’s steering column. Take out the ground and press down on the plastic tube those houses the hot wire. Turn it to the left to unlock it and then pull it straight out. Put the air bag to the side face down. If you have questions about BMW’s performance parts or components, the FCP Euro team and website are always available. If you are looking to enhance the performance, FCP Euro also has BMW Performance Tuning and BMW Performance Exhaust parts for your specific make.

Grab your BMW’s air bag close to the column and attach the horn button hot wire by taking the plastic tube and carefully placing it in the hole in your steering wheel. While pressing down, turn it to the right to lock it in. Attach the horn ground wire on the bottom of the air bag and then both remaining yellow wires to the air bag. Lay the air bag back in its spot. Put in the screws from the back to secure the air bag and then reconnect your battery. Make sure to connect the positive post and then connect the negative.
